Protect forest wealth: Altaf appeals people

 Jammu, March 2 (Scoop News) –  J&K Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, Mian Altaf Ahmad today said that it is the responsibility of every individual to protect forest wealth and ensure environment friendly atmosphere in the State.

            The Minister was addressing a high level officers meeting here today, convened to take stock of the matter related to diversion of forest land for construction from 9.5 Km to 43 Km road from Sunarwani to Razdantop.

            After threadbare discussion on the matter it was resolved that the road would be widened only upto 1.5 meters in addition to existing 5.47 meters to minimize the damage to forest wealth.

            Earlier, MLA, Gurez, N.A. Gurezi strongly advocated for forest clearance of the road in order to provide ample road connectivity to the people of the area.

            The meeting was among officers attended by Principal Conservator of forest   R. D. Tiwari, GOC 15 corps, Lt. General  Suresh Khajuria, , Brigadier TPS,   Rawat, Chief Engineer GREF, Mohammad Maqbool DFO, Bandipore and Colonel Gursmith.
