Road accidents claim 20 lives




Jammu and Kashmir was famous for its scenic beauty then it was world wide known as disturbed state for the last twenty years due to arms insurgency. Now unprecedented accidents on roads across the state have added another feather to state’s legacy. Despite tireless efforts by government in widening roads, providing new buses and ensuring coordination between various government departments for making smooth traveling on the roads, nothing have changed yet.

According to police reports as many as 20 people died in accidents at different places and several injured.  In an accident at Doda district, four people died and were identified as Vipin Lal, his wife Feeno Devi, and their seven-day-old baby and driver Yassir Hamid. Two critically injured have been identified as Namberdar Fakir Chand and Monika Devi.        


Police said that a Tata Sumo JK19-2095 on way to Shahdra Sharief shrine from Gool skidded off the road and rolled down into a nearly 500-ft deep gorge at Dhamni area in Reasi district this afternoon. 11 persons including two women and a boy were killed and three children were injured in the mishap, they informed. Five of deceased have been identified as Mohammad Iqbal, Abdul Aziz, Shamim Ahmad, Ghulam Mohammad and driver Manzoor Ahmad. Injured have been shifted to government medical college here, they said. A woman pilgrim died of heart attack enrouted to cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi in Trikuta Hills of Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir, police said. 53-year-old Vimlesh Kabri, who along with her family from east Mumbai, was on her way to the cave shrine in Katra when she suffered the heart attack yesterday. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead, they said.


Rakesh Mahajan, who worked with a local newspaper, was killed today when his car rammed into a truck on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, while a motorist died in an accident in Jammu city, they said. In another incident, three persons of a marriage party were killed when a car, Alto JK01L-6850 rammed into a parked truck JK14-5901 at Urnhal Bijbhera in southern Anantnag district. Three persons, Mohammad Rafiq Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad of Saraf Kadal, Nissar Hussain Dar (12) son of Ghulam Hassan of MR Gunj here and Mohammad Ashraf Wani son of Mohammad Subhan of Saraf Kadal, were killed on the spot while two others—Javeed Ahmed Bhat son of Mohammad Altaf of Laxmanpora Batamaloo and Mursalin Magray son of Sonullah Magray of Bazaar-i-Batamaloo were injured.
