School children taken out Cycle rally in J&K promoting ‘save mother earth’ campaign on world ear

Jammu, April 22 - To mark World Earth Day, 2009, the J&K State Pollution Control Board on Wednesday organized a cycle rally to create awareness about the hazards posed by the increasing pollution to the environment.


  


Hundreds of school children took out a cycle rally from Mubarak Mandi heritage complex on the occasion of world earth day promoting ‘save mother earth’ campaign. Commissioner secretary Forest department Shant Manu and Chairman of the state Pollution control board Lal Chand  flagged off the cycle rally from Mubarak Mandi on  Wednesday.


 


Attired in white dress, the participating students were holding placards carrying messages and different slogans 'save mother earth', 'stop using polythene bags', 'plant more trees', written all over the T-shirts.


The rally passed through Panjthrithi, Kachi Chawni,  Parade, City Chowk , Ragunath Bazar , Shri Surinder Singh Gurduwara, Swami Vivekannad Chowk  , Exhibition Ground and Tawi Bridge and culminated at Forest Information Centre , Vikram Chowk.


 


The rally was followed by a symposium on “Save Earth for Human Survival” wherein the students expressed their views on the subject. They favoured comprehensive steps for preservation of ecology and stringent laws to preserve the precious natural resources. 


 


            Earlier, on the sidelines of the flagging off function, Commissioner secretary Forest department Shant Manu   appreciated the enthusiasm of the participating students and said their involvement in such awareness campaigns would greatly help in spreading the message for maintaining clean and healthy environment.


 


Chairman Pollution control board Lal Chand interacted with the media persons and send a strong message to the common people with an aim to spread more awareness. 


By organising regualr seminars, rallies and special functions we try and spread our message  educating masses to make less use of polytheme and plant more and more trees to safeguard mother earth. Lal Chand said that the now a days more and more people tend to rely on use of polythene bags and hen throw it away in by lanes which then choke drainage system.


 


Advising people to adopt eco friendly habits Lal Chand said if every human being start using less polythene it will help save the mother earth.
