Sonamarg- Gumri road to close on October 31

 Sonamarg,October 17(Scoop News) -   Due to early snowfall and snow-covered road on the Zojila Pass, Project Beacon decided to close the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road for vehicular traffic from October 31,2012.

According to Chief Engineer Project Beacon, the Srinagar- Sonamarg-Gumri road is likely to be closed for vehicular traffic from October 31, 2012.

Usually the road is closed by November 15 every year for winter months when the Zojila Pass receives heavy snowfall.

Accordingly all the concerned including public/ tourist and transporters are requested not to ply their vehicles beyond Gagangir on Srinagar-Gumri road after October 31 without checking BRO advisories, which shall be on their own risk.  

Chief engineer, Project Beacon, further stated that following the closure of the road, it would not be possible to provide assistance to the trapped passengers as well as vehicles.

He has also requested private and public transporters not to ply their vehicles beyond Gagangir on the road after October 31.
