Spain's Princess Cristina Moving to US
The Duke and Duchess of Palma will be moving to Washington, D.C. by the end of the summer, as confirmed by the royal palace yesterday. The Duchess, Princess Cristina, 43, is the youngest of Spain's King Juan Carlos' three children and is seventh in line to the throne.
The Princess, her husband, Iñaki Urdangarin, and their four children ages 9, 8, 7 and 3, will be moving because of the Duke's employment commitments with the spanish telecommunications company, Telefonica, and are expected to reside in the area for at least two years. The Duke has been employed by Telefonica since 2006.
Although no confirmation has yet been given, it is rumored that the couple, who currently reside in Barcelona, will be moving to the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C., and that their children could possibly attend the Sidwell Friends School, where the daughters of President Obama attend.
Princess Cristina will continue her royal duties as assigned by her father and will be available to represent the royal family in the US. She will also maintain her current position as the director of the international cooperation program at La Caixa Foundation, although it is unclear if any modifications will be made to her current posititon.
