Arrest of a young college girl in Jammu with eight grenades has exposed the militant plans of using women in managing their operations. Even as militants use their services to evade law, young lives are being wasted in this idle pursuit of violence.
WITH THE ARREST of a female arms-carrier of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), the Jammu police on Friday are believed to have busted a well-knit terror ring operating in the state and particularly in the region.
Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir have added a fair sprinkling of glamour in their operations by involving young girls for the transportation of arms and explosives particularly the educated ones, who can move without any suspicion.
Senior police officers revealed that the a female student, identified as Nahida Altaf Hussain, daughter of Altaf Hussain of Surankote in border district of Poonch, who was doing Bachelor’s of Law from a local college situated in the city’s outskirts, was arrested on her way to deliver a consignment of one UBGL (Under Barrel Grenade Launcher) and eight grenades to a high ranking HM cadre in Jammu, who had to reach here from Kashmir.
Sources further disclosed that one of the cousins of Nahida, who was believed to be a close aide of the militant outfit, introduced the girl to the HM cadre and later forced her to deliver their consignment of arms and ammunition to Jammu.
"On a specific information pertaining to the movement of some female militants, a Special Operation Group (SOG) team from Jammu led by SP Operations, Jammu, Mubassir Latifi and a female SOG officer Deputy SP Mamta Sharma laid a surprise check point at Tanda near Akhnoor, more than 35 km northwest of Jammu and arrested the student after the recovery from a Maruti car bearing registration number JK02AB-8736 in which she was travelling."
Sources said that the girl belongs to well-heeled family as her mother Zaibunissah is presently posted as Principal of DIET (District Institute of Education and Training) and earlier served as Zonal Education Officer in Buffliaz, in district Poonch. Her father is a police officer presently posted at police control room and earlier he was working in traffic department of JKP (Jammu and Kashmir Police).
It was revealed that the female student was staying at a rented accommodation at Janipur locality in the city’s outskirts with her family. She stayed in the same area where a joint team of Delhi Police and Jammu Police had, earlier on August 11, eliminated Pakistan based militant organization Jaish-e-Mohammad’s (JeM) operational commander, Saifullah Qarri. Official sources as such have not ruled out her involvement with Saifullah Qari. Interestingly, a JeM OGW (Over Ground Worker) arrested from Surankote had revealed to the police the role played by Nahida in movement of arms and ammunition.
In the meantime, Jammu police have also alerted their counterparts in Kashmir Valley and a police team in Jammu is working on the inputs disclosed by the female accused during the preliminary questioning, to investigate the other militant connections in the city.
Here, it must be mentioned that militants in Jammu and Kashmir have increased the female quotient in their operations in order to evade the long arm of law.
Some mobile numbers were also identified from the SIM card of Nahida, the sources added.
Meanwhile sources said that another female student of the same college who was said to be Nahida’s friend was also picked up for questioning but was later released even as police was not forthcoming to disclose the identity of the arrested student.
