Tremor shakes Java
Tremors struck coastal Indonesia's West Java this morning, creating fear in various divisions of the thickly inhabited island, even though there was no instant news of destruction or fatalities. The tremor was too superficial to merit a tsunami caution, said Robert Cessaro at the United States National Weather Service's Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre. An executive at Indonesia's Meteorological group said by telephone that it struck an area on the northern coast of West Java. "There has been no injure or losses reported so far," the official said by telephone, adding that the quake could be felt as far away as Padang in Sumatra and the resort island of Bali.
