UK Army Learning 'Kabbadi'

A sport having it's origins in rural India is being accorded importance in the UK army.Kabbadi is the sport in question.

The British army is offering training in the sport with the hope that this will help it recruit from the undr represented Asian community.

Ashok Das is an Indian origin Briton who played a role in persuading the UK army officers about imparting training in Kabbadi as this would according to him be an effective tool for recruitment in the Asian community.This led to forming of small teams playing the sport.

The Kabbadi team recently defeated another team from Italy and is also to play against a team of India's Border Security Force(BSF).

First introduced in Britain through a Channel4 documentary in the early 1990s,it soon gained a devoted following in the UK army.

The only issue,Ashok Das rues,is that once trained in the sport the players get sent off to Afghanistan or Iraq.
