War crimes deterrence/Eelam’s accession to India – viable solutions in Sri Lanka

Informed comments on the moral stand of the international community (UK, US and EU) give much solace to the Eelam Tamils who for six decades endured a brutal genocide, the product of systemic intolerance in the Buddhist/Sinhala culture. Rajapakse’s electorally endorsed brutest and immoral genocide (2004 - ) liberates Eelam Tamils from the dated thinking that for over six decades paralyzed progress on the Tamil cause from seeking a historically logical solution. This is; Tamil Eelam acceding to India via Tamil Nadu.

For Eelam Tamils today the top most concern is survival that the much debated standard panaceas (power sharing, devolution, elections, human rights, equality, reconciliation and reconstruction) are meaningless. The truth is that the British left the Eelam Tamils behind as an orphaned defenseless people in the foster care of the likes of Rajapakses whose vision of a united Lanka is ‘a Sinhala land’ cleansed of ‘para demalas’. Thus was born the process of dispatching the Eelam Tamils in stages to the SL slaughter houses. UK did alleviate Tamil sufferings accepting tens of thousands as refugees but saving the lives of rest now from the most murderous regime becomes the most challenging moral obligation.

The SL state in the pre-Rajapakse ethnic cleansing used mobs and police to assault, kill, destroy homes, assets and livelihood that thousands were displaced internally and thousands fled overseas as refugees. An outraged world’s response then was too mild that SL successfully continued its atrocities with impunity. However the West humanely accepted and provided for the 1.2 plus million Eelam Tamils refugees to rebuild their lives successfully.

The Rajapakses (2004- ) murderous ethnic cleansing of the remaining ‘para demalas’ when no more countries had the capacity to accept them assumed a vicious and ferocious character. Physically eliminating them emerged as the preferred method. A Harvard estimate puts those killed at .4million two years ago. Recurrent massacres are not in hundreds as in the past but in tens of thousands. The heartless herding into camps for interning is not in thousands but hundreds of thousands. Though these war crimes stirred the world’s humane conscience, a curious axis comprising China (of Tiananmen fame), Israel, India/Delhi dharmic (!) Russia, Islamic Iran and Pakistan collaborated in the SL genocide and furthermore killed off the West’s war crimes initiatives meant to deter SL’s war crimes at the May 2009 UNHRC meeting. Just one year before the same body expelled SL from its membership for its human rights record. UK’s current moral initiatives to decisively pursue SL for its war crimes are laudable. The very survival of Eelam Tamils lives requires their enlightened support for Tamil Eelam’s accession to India. Evidence suggests that even Delhi (as most western nations do) regrets that this sad plight of the Eelam Tamils was brought about by nations directly or indirectly contributing to the loss of the LTTE leverage without putting in place viable alternatives to guarantee the very survival of Eelam Tamils. War crimes and Eelam Tamils accession to India emerge as viable solutions to the Tamil trauma and peace in the region.
