World TB Day 2010 observed in Kashmir



Srinagar, March 24 (Scoop News) -In connection with the celebration of World T.B.Day a function was organised in Sultan –ul-Aarfeen Higher Secondary School , Srinagar today and a seminar on measures to prevent T.B was conducted. The students of the concerned schools spoke on the topic of T.B. preventions. Touseef Majid, Mubashir and Mudasir secured first, second and third positions respectively and were awarded on the occasion.


            The Deputy Director, Health Services  Srinagar Dr. Ajaz Ahmad Khan flagged off the rally of students with banners at Rainawari.


            Speaking on the occasion district Tuberculoses Officer Srinagar Dr. Zahoor said that 1461patients are being provided Dots at the health centres of the district. Besides at health centres of Kashmir Division necessary medicines for the treatment of T.B. patients have been kept available.


            Medical Officers and para medical staff attended the function.


 


Meanwhile Emphasizing the significance of strict adherence to Tobacco Control Act-2003 for the welfare of mankind, District Development Commissioner, Samba, Saurabh Bhagat today asked the authorities to conduct a comprehensive survey of tobacco selling shops in Samba district to  initiate stringent action against them.


                Mr Bhagat was speaking after flagging off an Anti Tobacco rally being organized by the district administration, District Red Cross Society and Drug & Food Control Organization Samba at Sumb.


                Aimed at to create massive awareness among people regarding ill-effects of tobacco, the rally will also prove to be a sound alarm to the tobacco dealers to mend their ways. People were also explained the provisions of Tobacco Control Act by the Assistant Controller Drugs Samba to help them curb this menace from their respective areas.


More than, 300 students from different schools participated in the rally who displayed banners and flexes showing ill effects of tobacco. Besides, posters and stickers were also distributed among the masses.


Among others, the rally was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Mr M L Bhagat, Executive Secretary District Red Cross Society Samba and other district officers.


The DDC also directed the Deputy Chief Medical Officer to keep a record of tobacco affected patients so that adequate stock of treatment medicines could be arranged.
