Turkey as dystopia. Exquisite compositions. Everyone looks like shit. The glassy eyes of an alcoholic. Channel surfing. High tension wires. Staring at fish in an aquarium shop. “I’m bored.”
Tayfun Pirselimoglu:
“Pus is a story that haunted me for many years, ever since I first met poor youngsters working in small, gloomy pirate DVD production “ateliers” on the outskirts of Istanbul. This is still a popular illegal way of making money in the city. Nowadays, these places are harder to locate, but the work is still being done by young people. The “ateliers” I saw were full of them; they were desperate and restless like many others and they were illegally copying farfetched stories while talking about their own ordinary ones. I always found this contradiction both attractive and bitter.”
