Amar Singh the secretary-general of the Samajwadi Party and a member of the Rajya Sabha ( the upper house of the Indian parliament ) raised his economic demands to the Prime minister of India. He also briefed his strategy to control inflation.
Amar Singh is a close associate of the Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. He is also a close friend of Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and billionaire industrialist Anil Ambani.
Amar Singh’s economic demands which he requested the Prime Minister of India to implement are :
- To levy a one-time fixed charge of Rs 375 crore per Mhz of spectrum alloted for mobile phone use and also increasing the spectrum usage charges.
- To use foreign exchange reserves to prop up the rupee & thereby bringing the exchange rate to Rs 39 a dollar.
- To implement a windfall profit tax of up to 50 per cent on oil companies.
- To cancell the export-oriented unit (EOU) status of petroleum refineries in India.
Amar Singh feels that if the above demands are implemented then it will insulate the inflation-hit middle class against more hardships and the inflation can be controlled more effectively.
