According to the American Humane Association, approximately 56% of dogs and 71% of cats that enter animal shelters are euthanized. The goal of Guardians of Rescue is to support and save animals in need and we rely on donations to make our efforts a reality. A national organization based in New York, the Guardians of Rescue works to help the thousands of animals in need. After hurricane Sandy’s devastation, Guardians of Rescue stepped in to help the animals and people that were directly affected by the storm. All members of Guardians of Rescue are volunteers and devote their time to helping those in need, however, the organization is funded purely by donations. As we enter the first quarter of 2013, the group has a limited budget and is in desperate need for donations to continue their vital work helping distressed animals. Through education, a strong network and community support, they are committed to finding all animals a safe and loving home.
“It’s easy to overlook the many animals in distress, or to turn away from it,” Dori Scofield, vice president of Guardians of Rescue, stated. “We don’t do that. We are here to aid them everyday of the year and work hard, with the support of those in the public, to help these animals in need. With the help of public contributions we can continue our mission.”
The Guardians of Rescue members go out into the field to assist animals and families affected by natural disasters and beyond, such as the destruction by hurricane Sandy. Recently in Camden New Jersey, the Guardians of Rescue arranged for medical care, foster care, assistance for seniors, and lower income for families in need with pet food deliveries etc.
Guardians of Rescue has a program called “Animals Helping People,” where they pair shelter dogs up with veterans suffering from PTSD or other psychological conditions. Army Corporal John Wallace is part of this program to help the soldiers. He teamed up with the organization after they sent him his beloved “Tommy” after he returned from the war. Together, they have helped transport 10 dogs from Afghanistan to the United States and have reunited them with the U.S. soldiers that cared for them during combat.
