Valeriya Matveeva is young and upcoming actress.  Just in a few years she became very busy actress by following few rules. Which are working hard, working while every one are relaxing and working with a positive energy. Hollywood is simple, as long as you keep on working, have good attitude, positive energy and great communication skills, you going to make it.

She graduated from New York Film Academy, where she met a lot of her co-workers and very talented writers, actors and filmmakers. What she learned the most from there is if you want to be a part of the project create one. Don’t sit around, rather write yourself a character or write a story that you are interested in; if you don’t know how to write, find a friend that does and create beautiful, inspiring stories together.

Valeriya is a writer, painter and actress in a short film “Blue Apples”. One day Valeriya painted a portrait of a two-faced creature, however people would see a beautiful butterfly. Which led Valeriya to write this picture, to shine light on how differently people perceive the world.  What’s a better way to show it, than to write a story about a blind painter, Violet.  Ironically even girl’s name is a color, which she cannot see or recognize. “Blue Apples” was officially selected in multiple film festivals, like Glendale International Film Festival, Sochi Film Festival, Female Filmmaker Fuse Film Festival and won LA Shorts Awards.  LA shorts Awards granted Valeriya Matveeva a best actress award and Lizzi Moyseyenko a best editing award.

With a background in cityscape photography, Olamide Oladimeji, is carving a niche for himself as a cinematographer. Olamide graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from Nigeria’s prestigious University of Lagos, while in the university he was nominated for several photography awards and was employed by NGO RCCG City of David to shoot documentaries.

The new terrain of documentaries opened his eyes to the world of filmmaking therefore leading him to move to the United States to study cinematography at the New York Film Academy which he describes as “amazing experience, understanding how one person with the collaboration of others can elicit emotions, actions and reactions with light, colors and perspective”.

Having graduated from his diploma program, Olamide has gone on to work on several projects as a cinematographer, and most of them have been nationally and internationally accepted. In a short working professionally, Olamide’s projects

have been screened in the some of the world’s biggest film festivals like Cannes Film Festival, Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival, California’s Women Film Festival, and also nominated and won awards around the world too. Also he has been able to work on projects with the likes of director Benny Boom, cinematographer Tommy Maddox-Upshaw, actors Terrence Howard, Jay Ellis, Snoop Dogg, to mention a few

Looking into the future, the young Lagos born cinematographer is already booked to lens an impressive list of commercials, music videos and movies in the US, Central Europe and Africa even till 2020, and hopefully beyond.

IT WAS many years ago that I first realised how tricky French wine labels could be for beginners when a lady friend of mine insisted that Chablis tasted so much better than the “regular whites” such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. “Anything but chardonnay, yaar,” she said, using an expression that had become very popular in the United States in the 1980s and 90s. The expression, in fact, is now a part of the wine lexicon — it is known by its abbreviation ABC.

So you can imagine my friend’s shock when I gently let out the fact that Chablis is a famous wine region in Burgundy, France, and the white wine she had drunk was yet another expression of Chardonnay grapes. So is Pouilly-Fuissé, another famous Chardonnay, but from the Maconnais region of Burgundy. So also is a Côte de Beaune, which is a Chardonnay from the south of the Burgundian region of Cote d’Or. Going back to Pouilly-Fuissé, don’t ever make the mistake of believing it’s a cousin of the Pouilly-Fumé, the famous white from the valley of the Loire river to the west of France. The latter is a Sauvignon Blanc, just like the Sancerre, also from the Loire Valley!

If you read a French wine label, you’re most likely to find yourself sinking in a sea of unfamiliar verbiage, for none tells you what wine you’re about to drink. It may be a good idea therefore to first recap the names of the main French wine-producing regions and connect them with the wines/grape varieties they are best known for. Remember, each wine grape variety has certain distinctive qualities, gifted by the ‘terroir’ (soil and microclimate) of which it is a native, and these get transmitted to the wine it produces. In France, wine labels are supposed to tell this story. The Wine Company Gurgaon presents the connections you must first make to get to the bottom of the mystery:

Alsace — Gewurtztraminer, Pinot Gris and Riesling (all whites)

Beaujolais — Gamay (light-bodied red). It is a part of the Burgundy region, but its wines have acquired a cult following, justifying its independent status.

Bordeaux — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, which is the region’s most planted grape variety, and Cabernet Franc (medium-to-heavy-bodied reds). This region, famous for its reds, also produces whites made from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. France’s biggest and most prestigious wine-producing region, Bordeaux is divided into the Left Bank and the Right Bank (the two sides of the Gironde estuary), which are further split into sub-regions, notably Pauillac, Saint-Émilion, Pomerol, Médoc and Graves; its best-known chateaux have been divided since 1855 into five ‘growths’ ranked according to their quality profiles, the ‘First Growth’ having room for just five labels; Saint-Émilion has had its own classification system since 1955 and Graves since 1959. Confusing!

Burgundy (Bourgogne) — Chadonnay (white) and Pinot Noir (light-bodied red). It’s a complex maze of 100 appellations, including 44 of them that take their names from villages, classified as Grand Cru (2 per cent), Premier Cru (12 per cent) and Villages (the rest) according to rules dating back to 1855. These include the better-known Chablis, Corton (notably Aloxe Corton), Maconnais, Montrachet (notably Puligny-Montrachet) and Pommard. Of these, Chablis, Maconnais and Montrachet are famous for their dry whites (Chardonnay); Corton and Pommard are better known for the reds (Pinot Noir). More Confusing!

Champagne — Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (all three go into making champagne)

Languedoc-Roussillon — Grenache and Carignan (both light-to-medium-bodied reds)

Loire — Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadet (the grape variety is Melon de Bourgogne) and Chenin Blanc

Provence — The region is home to 36 grape varieties, but it is famous for its  rosés, produced from Cinsualt, Mourvedre, Grenache and Syrah.

Rhone — Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre (GSM — all reds); Viognier (white).

Sauternes — These prized dessert wines from the Sauternais region of the Graves area of Bordeaux are made with Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle.

Sud Ouest (South West) — Malbec (a grape variety famously associated with Argentina) and a host of others.

To make life easier, I have interpreted three labels for you. The first is of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, which has the distinction of having famous artists paint the label for each vintage:

Toute la recolte a ete mis en bouteilles au chateau — The entire harvest has been bottled in the chateau. This authenticates the fact that each stage of the wine’s production took place in the chateau.

Appellation Pauillac Controlee — The wine is from the sub-region of Pauillac, a small town in Bordeaux famous for being home to three of the five ‘First Growth’ wines. Mouton Rothschild, in fact, is the only First Growth wine that didn’t get its status in the 1855 Classification, but in 1973, thanks to Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s lobbying power.

Baron Philippine de Rothschild — The signature of the chateau’s owner and one of the most influential women in France.

13% vol — 13 per cent alcohol by volume

75 cl — 750 ml

What the label does not say is that it is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated wine, with Merlot, the most planted grape variety in Bordeaux, playing a supporting role. Do not confuse it with the highly successful Mouton Cadet, which is produced by the House of Mouton Rothschild with grapes picked up from different regions of Bordeaux.

The art on the label is by Giuseppe Perone, the renowned Italian sculptor and leading light of the Art Provera movement.

The second label is from Burgundy, from a famous house of wine merchants.

Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes — Chambolle-Musigny is a Burgundian appellation and Les Charmes is one of its 24 (and most renowned) Premier Cru vineyard sites, or climats. Premier Cru is the second rung in the Burgundian classification. A number of Les Charmes wines are available in the market, signifying that different producers own individual vineyards on a small swath of land, which is a typically Burgundian phenomenon.

Appellation Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Controllee — Chambolle-Musigny is an appellation in the Cote de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. It is famous for its red wines extracted from Pinot Noir grapes. (As you can see, you have to go to Uncle Google to decode a French label, but you learn a lot this way.)

Mis en Bouteilles pas Louis Jadot — Bottled for Louis Jadot. As you can see from the legend below the name, Louis Jadot is a ‘Negociant-Eleveur’; in other words, the house of wine merchants, based in Beaune, Cote d’Or,  are also into the production of wine.

The third and last label is from Loire Valley.

Sancerre — This is the region famous for its distinctive, food friendly Sauvignon Blanc. The words ‘Appellation d’Origine Controlee’ indicate that it is a controlled appellation.

Mis en Bouteilles au Domaine — Bottled in the Domaine.

Domaine Gerard Millet — Like Burgundy wine houses, Loire’s producers prefer to use Domaine over Chateau.

Proprietaire-Recoltant — Grower-producer whose wines are made/bottled on his/her property.

Alaska is the last frontier in the US. Largely unexplored and wild the state is enormous. Its about a third the size on the continental United States and has more states parks than other state by far. As a result, there is some of the best camping in the world here. The Chilkoot trail is world renowned as being one of the best locations for camping and hiking.

The trail extends from Dyea, Alaska to Bennett, British Columbia. This American and Canadian trail follows through the Coast Mountains. It is located in what is now known as the Klondike Gold Rush International Historical Park. The Chilkoot Trail is one that takes around 33 miles and can take around 5 days to complete the entire trek.

Dyea to Finnegan’s Point

This part of the hike is around 7 miles, where you will come across mossy sites and stunning wildflowers as you travel along the Taiya River. Since this is a popular trail, it is very well-maintained for this cottonwood rainforest. It rains frequently here in the summer, be sure to bring a rain gear like waterproof pants, coats and hiking boots.

The campsite here was quite gorgeous, offering breathtaking glacial views of the area. Just seeing beginning leg of this trail will show you just how beautiful the rest of your hike is going to be. This is a primitive campsite with no amenities, be sure to bring your own camping stove or better yet a packable backpacking stove.

Canyon City to Sheep Camp

The next part of your journey is about 8 miles long and takes you to Canyon City. This is a significant location because you can see remnants of the Gold Rush that took place in this historic location. You will cross a suspension bridge that will help to make this a truly memorable adventure. You will follow along a river that offers the perfect view and soundtrack for this calm adventure. When you finally get to Sheep Camp, you will settle in next to the river.

The Golden Stairs

While the next part is only around 7 miles, it is really the incline that you have to worry about here. This part will take you across the American border into Canada and brings 2,000 feet of elevation with it. This will take you to Happy Camp as you pass from the rainforest into the Alpine area of this path. You will find Crater Lake when you get to this part of the journey, which is really a majestic sight to see. This is a very rocky area, which calms down as you head closer to Happy Camp.

Bear Loon Lake

It will take around 9 miles to get to Bear Loon Lake as you walk through an alpine tundra until you come across this campsite. Along the way, you may come across some of the gorgeous wildlife that this location has to offer, including bears, waterfowl, and golden eagles. The stunning views that you get of this area from the campsite will make you sad that your journey is about over.

Lake Bennett and White Pass Yukon Route Railway

The final leg of this trail is only about 4 miles of hiking but you will definitely get an experience during the rest of your journey home. You will hike around to Lake Bennett and take in this breathtaking sight before you head off to the railway, where you can get a scenic view of this gorgeous area as you travel to Carcross before going back to where you started.

Important Note

You will need to obtain a permit before you take on this adventure.

GPS is a fantastic technology that has been applied in so many areas of our daily lives. When you enter a destination in Google Maps, the service uses GPS to track your location and guide you towards your intended spot.

For families, GPS technology is of particular importance because it can be used to track, and thus protect, its more vulnerable members. Tracking your children’s journey from school to home, for instance, can be invaluable if you cannot pick them up yourself.

And if your child wants to visit a friend in another neighbourhood, you can make sure that they are staying safe and not doing anything risky. This can be accomplished either via GPS tracking apps or dedicated tracking devices.

GPS Tracking apps

The first step in your journey to track your family should be GPS tracking apps. There are, in fact, services entirely dedicated to this purpose. The prime example of this category is no other than Life360, a networking app for families with a strong emphasis on location tracking.

The app has two main areas of interest for families. The first one is ‘Circles’, a feature that allows users to create dedicated groups such as ‘Parents and children’ and ‘extended family’. Users who belong in a Circle can always view each other’s location in a live map.

This is extremely useful because you can set up exactly who can view your children’s locations and when. So if they are visiting an uncle who lives far away, for instance, you can add everyone to the same group so that they can be aware of each other’s location for a limited time and then remove them from the group when they come back.

The other feature of major importance is Places. This is simply Life360’s version of geofencing. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, it relates to the ability to define areas on a map and receive notifications when a user (like your child) leaves or enters that location.

For instance, you can know if your child has left their school zone without them having to pick up the phone and tell you. If you are working when they come back, you can rest easy knowing that they have entered your home even if they forget to call you.

Dedicated GPS tracking devices

The other solution is dedicated GPS tracking devices for kids. These standalone devices come in many different shapes and forms and allow you to track their location through dedicated apps.

The Liberty Watch, for example, is a rugged device that uses GPS and Wi-Fi technology to accurately track your child’s location at all times. It includes a SIM card for mobile data and it allows you to track your children even if they do not have access to a phone.

Another great example of a GPS watch is the Filip 2. This device also has a speaker and a microphone and can hold up to 5 numbers, meaning you can easily call your children and vice versa without the need for a phone.

Wearables can be fantastic solutions but not every child will be comfortable with wearing a watch. The alternative is to provide your children with devices that can be placed in their pockets or their backpacks so that they can always carry them when they are going out.

For instance, the PocketFinder is a tiny device that does not break easily and can be placed anywhere. One of its most important features is its ability to send an SOS alert. This is accomplished by tapping on the surface three times. This will teach your children how to contact you in an emergency without alerting anyone else.

Tatiana Romao

Actress Tatiana Romao at the The National Association of Latino Independent Producers Film Festival

Many successful and talented actors fall into the quicksand of being typecast, striking it hot as one type of character and playing them over and over in different forms to the point of audiences believing that’s all they have in them. Fortunately for Tatiana Romao, who takes on a critical role in the upcoming apocalyptic zombie horror film Valentine DayZ slated for release later this year, that will never be the case.

With a repertoire of work that is riddled with incredible diversity in terms of genre and the characters she’s portrayed, Romao is one actress whose chameleonic talent has left an indelible impression on audiences. From playing emotionally heavy roles like the drug addicted titular character in the film Corinne and the battered girlfriend looking for a way out in multi-award winning director Andrea La Mendola’s film Lips, to the amiable and supportive friend who’s there through it all in the multi-award winning film Simple Being, Romao has a unique way of tapping into each character she takes on and commanding our attention.

She recently took on the critical role of Diana in the film Valentine DayZ, which also stars Carrie Keagan (Reno 911, The Hangover, Dead 7), Robert Allen Mukes (Backwoods, Westworld, Weeds) and Dallas Valdez (The Fiance). Written and directed by Mark Allen Michaels (Mind Rage, The Fiance) Valentine DayZ follows a wealthy and immoral cast of characters who think life is peachy until a zombie outbreak occurs and they’re flung into a gruesome fight for survival. In the film Romao plays Diana, one of the critical characters who, alongside Max (Valdez), has to fight the undead in order to ensure humanity’s survival.

Valentine DayZ is the second horror film Romao has been in over the course of her career, with the first one being Gregory Avellone’s (Vinnie and Angela’s Beauty Salon and Funeral Parlor) 2014 film the The Red House with award-winning actress Kate French (Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill) and Brendan Wayne (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Lookin’ Up).

“When I was at the beginning of my acting career I used to believe that even the filming of a horror film had to be somewhat scary, I remember reading stories of things that some people said happened on their sets and so I had in my mind that I was never going to be in one, well…that has changed a lot. Of course we have our very tense moments depending on the scene that we are filming but we had so much fun,” explains Romao about working on Valentine DayZ.

Valentines DayZ

Valentines DayZ Film Poster

In 2015 Romao took on the starring role as the titular character in the film Corinne directed by Kate Rees Davies, a multi-award winning director who is also known for the films The Many Addictions of Chloe, Sticks & Stones, Clean Getaway, The Vanished and many more. Rees Davies, who previously directed Romao in the film Abberation, which was selected to be screened at the 69th Cannes Film Festival (one of the most important and renowned film festivals in the world), and was also a producer on the film Valentine DayZ, so clearly a strong working relationship has been struck between the two.

In Corinne, Romao’s character travels down a perilous path of drug addiction and self destruction after breaking up with her longtime husband. The way Romao brings Corinne to life in the film, exposing her emotional fragility and authentically portraying her grief-ridden struggle with addiction, is both dramatic and poignant. Through Romao’s flawless performance audiences are given a powerful insight into what it means to struggle with addiction, and anyone who has struggled with addiction in their own lives will immediately recognize the validity of the phases Corinne goes through on her journey towards getting clean.

“It was the first time I played a role that involved drugs and addiction and all the discoveries and growth I had as an actress during this project was absolutely fascinating. I read so much about addiction, the withdrawal, what people go through, what leads them to that point, what gets them to overcome it,” explains Romao. “It was honestly difficult and sad to learn about this world. To film ‘Corinne’ was hard but fascinating and It ultimately was one of the projects that made me grow a lot as an actress and as a human being”

The film, which screened at the 7th Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival, also starred Arianne Hough from the films Bootmen and Possession(s), and the series Deadly Women and House of Hancock.

While Corinne undoubtedly pushed Romao to experience a difficult and altogether foreign perspective in order to fully tap into the role and bring her character to life, the actress admits that her most challenging role to date was that of Sarah in the 2012 drama Disruption, which was chosen as an Official Selection of The Online Film Festival and HollyShorts Film Festival.

Directed by award-winning director Giulio Poidomani (Pots & Lids, Luna Achiary: Friends, Sloth), Disruption follows Jay, a depressed comic book writer who, after waking up from a coma, begins confusing his real life with those of his comics.

Starring alongside Eric Gorlow from the series The Exorcists and the films Nightcomer and Big Sky, and Ron Gilbert from the two-time Oscar Award winning film The Usual Suspects, Romao’s character Sarah is Jay’s (Gorlow) wife and the mother of his young child. As Jay goes deeper down the rabbit hole into the depths of his twisted mind, Sarah struggles to maintain the balance of their lives.

Romao admits, “I have a lot of experience with roles that are emotionally deep, but Sarah was more of a stay at home mom dealing with an unbalanced husband. I never knew that holding back was actually going to be a bit of a struggle for me but Giulio guided me and helped me in understanding how to approach it. It’s funny, we understand that “‘being pushed’ is only for something somewhat extreme, but that role for me was completely out of my comfort zone and I learned a lot from it.”

As the film unfolds we begin to realize that Jay is too far gone within his delusions as his psychosis eventually leads him to murder his family– all the while believing he is just a character in a comic book. For Romao, taking on the lead character of Sarah in Disruption was actually her first time playing a mother on screen, but you’d never guess that from her spot on performance, which is a driving force within the film.

When it comes to choosing roles, Romao explains, “I have to either relate to the role or the story and if it has a deeper message to the world or is a subject that we all have to start talking about, I’m all in straight away… Sometimes it’s a director I’ve always wanted to work with like Mark Michaels and Giulio Poidomani, or the role is a challenge for me, it can be something so different than what I normally play that I am always dying to try it, but one way or another the story has to move me in some way.”

For Tatiana Romao, finding new and uniquely challenging roles to breathe life into on screen is the linchpin that has not only endowed her with a remarkable reputation for taking on diverse roles, but also pushed her to expand her boundaries and grow exponentially as an actress.

Overview

Tooth pain is one of the most terrible things, especially when the affected one is wisdom tooth. However, not everyone on Earth has the same experience and some of us might never know how unbearable it is.

For those who are seriously concerned about it, wisdom tooth pain is claimed to be a revolution’s sign that human beings developed to adapt to their past diet. After the cooking methods and items, such as knives or forks, appeared, there is no need for wisdom tooth any more.

Normally, wisdom tooth has to be removed in order to prevent more serious consequences, such as bacterial or viral infections.

Natural Home Remedies for Wisdom Tooth Pain

Although the pain is severe and you often resort to medical intervention, you can use several natural ingredients to treat wisdom tooth pain.

Following are top 9 natural home remedies for wisdom tooth pain that can be effective to alleviate your pain.

1. Clove

For long, clove has remained a traditional home remedy for wisdom tooth pain in various parts of the world. Not only is it effective for wisdom teeth, but it also works for other types of pain. It is acceptable to use clove oil or raw clove. You just need to simply put it in the mouth so that its juice covers your wisdom teeth. In case you go for clove oil, it should be applied directly over affected teeth.

2. Peppermint

The most popular application of peppermint in oral treatments might be for bad breath and sore throat. However, you should be aware that it is another home remedy for wisdom tooth pain as well. Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities are strong enough to reduce the risk of potential infections.

If you can afford peppermint leaves, you ought to crush them in the mouth directly. Meanwhile, you can soak a cotton swab into peppermint extract and dab it over your wisdom teeth so as to relieve the pain.

3. Ice Pack

Even when no ingredient in this list is available in your house, you can still find one of the most effective home remedies for wisdom tooth pain. Ice pack can be applied right on your cheeks in order to alleviate pain and inflammation caused by this problem. This should last about 15 minutes and you can reapply as many times as you want. Yet, it is important to note that you had better not use ice directly on the mouth because it probably worsens the situation.

4. Olive Oil

Containing many important minerals that are associated with pain reduction, olive oil is one of the best natural home remedies for wisdom tooth pain. It has been used for years to deal with pain. You should use warm olive oil and apply it over your wisdom teeth a few times on a daily basis. The results will be seen quickly.

5. Garlic

Although nasty smell can result from garlic, it is undeniable that garlic is one of the best natural home remedies for wisdom tooth pain. It has various qualities that meet the need of pain treatments, such as anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Thanks to garlic, you can avoid bacterial infections, which are the consequence of open wounds in wisdom teeth.

The best way is to chew garlic cloves directly. If you want better effects, salt should be mixed with garlic first. If you cannot use raw garlic, it is useful to include garlic more often in cooking.

6. Black Tea

Black tea is not only a useful drink to relax your stomach after big meals, but also a good natural treatment for wisdom tooth pain. It contains some nutrients that have positive effects on swelling and painful feeling. It is recommended that you sip a cup of warm black tea slowly. This will have soothing impacts on your wisdom teeth almost instantly.

7. Cayenne Pepper

Spicy as it seems, cayenne pepper is the next home remedy for getting wisdom teeth pulled that you should remember. Even though burning sensation appears at first, you should not worry about that. It is only the sign that this ingredient is useful. Powdered cayenne pepper should be combined with water to have a thick paste. Then, get it applied on the teeth. A few minutes later, you will feel a little burning sensation and an improvement in these areas.

8. Apple Cider Vinegar

This liquid has been widely used as a natural painkiller for ages because of its medicinal qualities. You can also make use of it as one of the best natural home remedies for wisdom tooth pain that take effects quickly. All you need is a cotton ball that is dipped in this vinegar and placed over your wisdom teeth. Ten minutes is a sufficient amount of time and you can repeat applying this method 2-3 times every day.

9. Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass has amazing effects on the treatment of tooth pain. The suggestion for those who are struggling with wisdom teeth is to use its juice to rinse their mouth regularly. It serves as a natural mouthwash that eliminates bacteria and toxins from your mouth. As a result, you will be safe from infections and pain. In order to get the best results, you should always use fresh wheatgrass.

In the spring of 2015, Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter and musician Ed Roman and his wife, Kim, travelled to the island of Jamaica, to deliver humanitarian relief and teach music to the local kids. It’s no secret that the beautiful country holds a special place in Ed’s heart; he even wrote a song dedicated to the island, “Jamaica.”  Watch the epic video, shot on location, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caBbTg-kkdA.

Now, Ed is sharing his first-hand account of his and Kim’s return to Jamaica in April 2017…a return to the home of one of Ed’s musical heroes, the legendary Bob Marley…a return to the people and culture of the place Ed lovingly calls his “second home.” While Ed and Kim always take something with them to give, it is what they experience, and what they take with them, that is more precious than gold.

Ed Roman and Boy“Jamaica 2017..Been a while, but the necessity to get back to the jewel of the Caribbean was overwhelming. Our experiences there are always fast-paced, long running and filled with adventure. Music seems to be a theme on the island, other than football and food, but it’s one of the many reasons I feel so connected to this beautiful place. I’m always in search of a guitar, to be able to play music with people and teach young children, if they’re willing to learn. This trip was much like a lot of the other experiences we had, in terms of connecting with kids on a regular basis, amazing friends and family, including a few new ones. Kim and I find ourselves always giving and sharing, not only our food and what we have, but our knowledge and know-how and skills, when it comes to certain things, but at the same time, I think we’re learning even more. This is another continual thing that is going on: Sharing… so many people are willing to do anything and everything for each other, even if it means traversing across the entire island to achieve the goal. It is, of course, the strong sense of community that we feel welcomed into, and it has enhanced and accentuated our existence as humans..’

“We spent our Sunday evening putting together an elders’ dinner for five of the elders in the community that are unable to cook for themselves. One of which had most recently had a stroke. That evening, we fed close to 20 people, and I’m sure a few more, but what was important to us, is being able to give back to the place that gives to us. I’m sure many people walking by and or driving, wondered what the white man on his knees was doing feeding the Jamaican stroke victim. I really don’t care what anybody thinks, because my experiences are what I hold close to me, in my heart, and feed me for the rest of my duration. They are gold..This is one of the many powerful experiences I remember. As duality would dictate, on that very same evening, we decided to cross the same road and found ourselves amidst a 40th birthday party for one of the locals. Red Stripe, a little bit of rum and ganja, and great pumping tunes were the effervescing moments of the evening, punctuated by an incredible tropical rainstorm. There had to have been at least 40 of us all inside of Miss Annie’s little shack, dancing and partying away till 4:30 in the morning.’

Ed in Pool“I had the pleasure, a number of nights, to be able to cook on Papa’s coral and stone fire pit, where I’ve been honing my skills as a jerk chicken and fish maker. Yes I Did. Sweet pimento leaf slowly seeps its way up through the metal grates, lapping the luxurious meats, which earlier were christened by fresh garlic, thyme, pepper and onion.. ah YEA.. The two jerk recipe for smoking meats came from Portland. The home of the concept of using the sweet pimento leaf…”

“Scaling the cliffs to breach the crevice of flowing ocean water, that needed to be timed in order to cross; It was there we found ourselves swimming in UB40’s ocean fed pool.. RED RED Wine.’

“Kim had a wonderful experience of being able to go to the Good Hope Plantation.. an incredible one week experience of comprehensive wood firing in a Jamaican kiln.. Teaching kids, throwing pots and connecting with amazing people and potters from all over the world.’

“Our experiences there are rich and fruitful, and usually, the last thing we want to do, is get back on the plane. It is good to be home and feel the Canadian soil in my hands and the sweet smell of spring air. See you soon, my friends and family, for part of my heart belongs there..’

“Little to no sleep, swollen ankles from continually on our feet. It’s there, in a subtle pulse, hidden in the islands beat. The continual array of culture, not deceit. It’s where I find friends and family to meet.’ –Ed Roman

A Big Step To Success Is The First Step In The Morning

‘Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: Proverbs 6:10’

Picture a lazy fool in bed. The sun peaks over the horizon; the clock shows it is time to get up; the night is over, and there is work to do. He sleeps a little longer; he loves his warm bed; he folds his hands and cuddles in his comfy cocoon. He is a lazy fool. He is a loser. Poverty will soon get him (Pr 6:11). His drowsy approach will ruin him (Pr 23:21).

He ought to get up, but he does not like to work. He prefers to sleep. He tries to postpone work by staying in bed. Maybe the work will go away, and he can sleep all day, he dreams. Maybe another fifteen minutes in bed will make it easier to get up. It feels so good, he mumbles; surely there is nothing wrong with something that feels this good!

Solomon warned against laziness and sleeping too much (Pr 6:6-11). Sleeping is a big temptation for young men, so he repeated these words again (Pr 24:30-34). He mocked the cuddling sluggard, “As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed” (Pr 26:14). He rolls back and forth, finding new positions, rather than getting up!

You cannot make money in bed. More minutes in bed wastes time and opportunity. Real men get up. They do not hit the snooze button. They hit the deck. They turn the lights on. They wash their faces. They punch the air. They stretch and flex. They smack their hands. They thank God for another day. They rejoice to be up before slothful neighbors.

Young men love sleep. They nursed and slept all day to begin life. They do not know the duty of supporting a family. They do not appreciate a paying job. Life so far has been eating, playing, and sleeping. They want to sleep until they feel like getting up, which is often about noon. They have not learned too much sleep makes you sleepy (Pr 19:15).

Sleep must be ruled like other things. You need a certain amount, and taking more is slothfulness. Temperance, or self-discipline, is key. Drunkards drink too much; sluggards sleep too much. You cannot sleep all you want anymore than you can drink all you want. Good habits can be formed, and the body and mind will adjust to think them very right.

Loving sleep is as wrong as loving wine, for it leads to compromise of your temperance. Solomon wrote, “Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread” (Pr 20:13). A big step to success is the first step in the morning. Get up! Get going! You will be glad you did, once you get up and get going.

Parents! Teach your children to get up by example and rules. Though you have lost the early morning chores of the farm, you can still expect them to be up early and attacking the day. Girls need the rule at least as much, for virtuous women do not sleep in (Pr 31:15). They also need to learn that there is much that can be done early in the morning.

You should be thankful the LORD God of heaven does not slumber or sleep, which is an inspired reason to put your complete trust in Him to help and protect you (Ps 121:1-8). The Lord Jesus Christ did not oversleep in His life and ministry, for He knew He should be at work doing the will of God while He had the opportunity (Jn 9:4; 11:9-10; 12:35).

The nice thing about recognizing the fact that you have limited time with the persons you love is having the ability to appreciate every moment that you get to spend with them. When it comes to divorced couples, one of the common arrangements is the custody of the children. Whether you have been granted the sole custody, joint custody, or only visitation rights, it is still important that you make every time spent with your child completely memorable.

For the upcoming summer, make sure that you will make plans to spend quality time with the kids. Despite your hectic schedule at work or other personal matters, do not neglect the need to make every moment count with the children. There are lots of activities that you can do which will certainly make them happy.

Go Camping With The Kids

Summer is the perfect season to go outdoors and spend the weekend at camping sites. This is a good way to bond with your kids and at the same time, to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. All you need to do is to find the perfect camping site and plan an exciting itinerary with your sons and daughters.

Cook Something For The Children

Give your children a chance to try something new. Learn a new recipe and prepare a satisfying dish for your kids to enjoy. It does not need to be a high-class or an exquisite dish. What really matters is that you put an effort into preparing something for the kids. They will really enjoy it especially if you place your heart into cooking or baking.

Watch Movies and Listen To Great Playlists

As long as you spend time with your children during the summer, they will surely appreciate your efforts. There is no need to do fancy dates or extravagant outings. Even if you simply go to the movies or stay in your living room for a music night, it will already be good time they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Arrange Important Matters Before Leaving

Before you cancel appointments or leave for work for the summer bonding time with the kids, make sure that everything is all set. Do not leave the city without talking to your attorney. It is recommended that you ask for a legal advice again about spending time with your kids especially if there is still an issue concerning the custody of the children.

How to Start a Workout Routine for the First Time

Congratulations! Now that you have decided to take better care of your body and get fit, the most important task is done already. You have will and motivation. Without which, the fitness process is a tardy one. But there are a few predetermined things even the top gyms in Dubai don’t teach you. Being a newbie, you might not be aware of them, therefore, here is a round up of what you need to know before starting your first workout routine.

HIIT It Hard

High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT is the backbone of any weight loss journey. The process involves rapid sessions of high intensity workouts with minimal breaks. HIIT has the potential to burn maximum amount of calories in a minimal amount of time, making it one of the favorite methods at fitness centers in Dubai.

Posture Matters

During exercise, the wrong posture can be a deal breaker, and can even cause severe long-term injury. It is crucial that you are aware of the right posture for the particular exercise you are performing. Being new to gyms, you might not be familiar with how to execute the workouts and the use of equipment. It is highly advised to ask the instructor at your gym for help. Almost all the fitness clubs in Dubai have well-trained coaching staff to guide you when needed.

Take a Break Between Sets

When you first start out a workout regime, excitement is natural. The passion to do more and go beyond the limit is, although admirable, also a major cause of injuries. Take a break between sets. Overexerting yourself will not help you get anywhere anytime soon.

Ditch Routine

If ever there was a thing that killed passion, it was routine. In order to keep your motivation intact, mix things up from time to time. Ditch the gym and go running for a few days. Stop running and start swimming for a change. Even within the gym, use a combination of exercises to keep things interesting.

Rest Rest Rest

When you are working out, you are basically putting your muscles under more stress than they can tolerate. This sometimes causes tearing of the tissues. Resting promotes restoration and healing of these muscles and tissues. If you provide your body with adequate rest days, your fitness journey will be much smoother.

Enjoy DOMS

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness is going to be your biggest problem for the first few weeks. Take your initial days easily and DOMS will be manageable for you. Put too much strain on your body and you will find yourself making a noise with every move. The pain is just your muscles adjusting to the new level of stress. It will go away soon, but in the meantime, rest as much as you can and keep your workouts light.

Starting out an exercise regime is daunting yet exciting. With the right aptitude, it is rewarding process.

Router bits are considered vital tools which any person with interest in woodworking must have. Meanwhile, choosing router bits can be somehow a tough task given that they come in different shapes and sizes and are also meant for entirely different woodworking intentions. Because of that, persons who are new to woodworking may not have an idea on the right router bit to go for depending on the nature of the woodwork at hand. Regarding the types of profiles you wish to get from a given woodwork session, you must have an idea on the type of router bit that can enable you to achieve your work objectives. The following is a description of the most common types of router bits you can encounter in woodworking environment, their dimensions and the kind of tasks you can accomplish with them.

45-Degree Chamfer Router Bit

Source: overstock.com

This type of router bit can cut a 45-degrees profile, chamfer, on the edge of a wood panel or board. The router bit is mostly used to remove sharp corners or squares from picture frames, shelves, countertops or vertical posts. The bit can also be used to create V-shaped grooves on boards, and such profiles can be created when two chamfer edges meet. Chamfer Router Bits are available in different sizes, and there are some that are made to specifically work for certain angles. 1-1/4 inch chamfer router bit is preferable since it is easily available and can offer convenience given that it covers common woodworking procedures.

Rabbeting Router Bit

Source: lowes.ca

A rabbet refers to an L-shaped profile cut along the edge of a wood board or panel. The L-shaped profile can accept another wooden panel of proportionate size thereby forming a rabbet joint. Many home woodworking procedures such as cabinet making and building drawers rely heavily on rabbet profiles. Most rabbet profiles cut are a 1/2 inch deep and 3/8 inch wide, and it will be incredibly a wise decision of you pick rabbet router bits having such dimensions for convenience.

Cove Router Bits

Source: mlcswoodworking.com

This router bit is useful when making decorative edges on a piece of woodwork. Instead of having a round edge, cove router bits can give a concave radius cut on a wood piece edge. The outcome is often a simple decorative edge that can boost the looks of furniture legs, bookshelves and cabinet doors. Cove router bits are available in different radius profiles they cut with dimensions ranging from 1/16 inch to 1-inch radius. If you are fond of doing woodwork procedures all by yourself, 3/8 inch or ¼ inch cove router bit can nicely get along since most woodworking procedures that require radius edging are mostly confined to those dimensions.

Rounding Over Router Bits

Source: popularmechanics.com

These router bits are fitted with ball bearing mechanism that controls that width that can be cut from a wood profile. You can adjust the depth of cut by simply controlling the router base. Rounding over router bits are available in different sizes with the most useful ones being the ones having a ¼ inch and 3/8 inch dimension specifications. These router bits can be of immense help in getting round-edging profiles on tabletops, shelves, chair arms and any other wood section where a round-edge profile can be needed.

Straight-Cutting Router Bits

Source: amazon.ca

These router bits are used to cut straight and square-bottomed profiles. They are available in different diameters, but the most convenient sizes are a 1/4 inch,  1/2 inch, and 3/4  inch router bits. These router bits can be used to cut rabbet profiles, dadoes and even grooves used in plywood drawer backs and bottoms. Straight-cutting router bits have a pilot that are used to guide the bits and keep them in the right place. For the bits that come without the pilots, it is upon the users to ensure that the bits can give straight and accurate cutting profiles.

Roman Ogee Router Bits

Source: amazon.ca

These router bits can give classical decorative edging S-profiles on tabletops, vertical stiles, picture frames and horizontal rails. Roman ogee router bits have a ball-bearing pilot that are placed to the end of the bits and are responsible for guiding the depth of cut. These bits are mostly available in ¼ inch, 5/32 inch and 3/8 inch radius dimensions. For convenience in many woodworking tasks, ¼ Roman Ogee router bits can be of immense help.

Flush Trimming Router Bits

Source: yonicotools.com

Flush-trim bits come in handy especially for wood veneer or plastic laminates. These router bits are straight-cutting and have a ball-bearing pilot mechanisms that allow for overhanging surfaces to be flushed offed with a substrate. You can use the bits when working on plastic laminated countertops, tabletops, cabinet doors and work perfectly when flush trimming wood veneer. Flush-Trimming bits are available in many sizes but ones having 1/2 inch diameter and 1-inch cutting depth are of most help.

We all know that period pains can be a right pain in the bum sometimes! I suffer from particularly nasty pains to the point where I have to call in sick to work. Of course, I can’t say to my boss that I am suffering from a bad period pain, so I have to make up some generalized excuse as to why I cannot come in. A friend recommended to use a cannabis tampon. Now, having never used cannabis before in any form, I was a little hesitant, as it does sound rather unusual and it’s not a wide spread product that is being used by millions across the country. But, despite my initial concerns, I thought I would give it a try.

I was worried at first that the cannabis tampons would make me high as a kite! But, I was told that the tampon doesn’t give a high but instead aims to reduce the pain using that you feel when you have a period through the power of THC in the cannabis. It is produced by a company called Foria who offer several conventional products that make use of the pain relieving properties of cannabis.

It is important to note at this stage that this product is not currently approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration. Nor has it been tested in clinical trials at this stage. But, anecdotal evidence is indeed entirely positive. Many users also say the tampons have helped with their lower back pain that they suffered from aswell.

When I used the cannabis tampons, I found that my cramps almost went away around an hour after I used the product. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t smell of cannabis. Instead, it smelt like cookie dough, which was even better! Who doesn’t like cookies when they are suffering?

In terms of cost, they are not overly cheap. At the end of the day, you are paying for a quality product. As of 2017, a pack of four costs approximately $44. This may therefore be considered as a “luxury product”. It could be an option to use normal tampons when the pain is not as bad, but if it gets to an excruciating level, then you can crack open a cannabis tampon to reduce the pain.

The makers of the tampons said it was their intention to bring the magical pain relieving properties of cannabis to the menstruation process. They say they make use of the latest technology to ensure that the latest extraction techniques are used, which ensures each tampon is made to the required standard and that it is safe to use.

At the moment, these tampons are only available in the US states of California and Colorado, but it is expected that they will be more widely available at a later date. You must have a medicinal marijuana card to use the product, or a doctor’s letter in these states aswell.

Find your nearest dispensary who may be able to stock this product (use the dispensary near me tool on Cannabis.net). Your dispensary could offer advice to see if this product is suitable for you.

Foods to boost your concentration and memory

Did you know that the food you eat does a lot more than just satiating your hunger or giving you energy? Nature has always had amazing things in store for us, and what it offers in food is one of them.

The food you consume affects not only your physical health but mental health too. Every time you feel forgetful, it isn’t down to just lack of rest; it may also occur due to not consuming brain boosting food. Eating healthy food to benefit your mind and body is a far smarter choice than eating food for the taste of it.

As per several researches, there are certain food items which improve the brain’s functions, clarity, and focus. These are also known to protect against age-related cognitive decline. Here are some of those brain foods:

Berries

Unless someone is allergic, most people generally like berries. In this family, blueberries come with high concentrations of phytochemicals, which besides giving color to the fruit also improve your memory. The high levels of gallic acid in the blueberries safeguard your brain from stress and degeneration. Along with the above, blueberries also have high levels vitamin K, Vitamin C, antioxidants and fiber.

Eggs

One of the most affordable sources of proteins, eggs are essential to a healthy diet. While most people chose to cut out on the yolk and consume only the white portion, we suggest against it. The egg yolk contains omega-3 fatty acid DHA which has an advantageous effect on the mood and the memory.

Bethane, another chemical element found within eggs, yields associated with happiness. There’s Choline as well, a component found in the yolk in large amounts, which helps in fetal brain development in pregnant women.

Banana

It may surprise you but a simple fruit like banana can do a lot of good to your brain, right from boosting your memory to regulating good mood. Bananas come with potassium which helps keep your heart, brain and nerves in good condition.

The Vitamin B6 found in the bananas improves cognitive function especially memory. Magnesium, another mineral component, helps the body to flush out the ammonia which hinders the brain’s ability to focus. Lastly, bananas come loaded with amino acids, tryptophan and tyrosine which are used by the body to produce mood regulating neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin.

Beets

Whether you like consuming beetroot or not, you just cannot deny the many health benefits this vegetable possesses. Besides being rich in cancer-fighting antioxidants, beetroots come with natural nitrates which dilate blood vessels, and increase flow of blood and oxygen to the brain. This in turn improves mental performance.

Beetroots also help to get rid of toxins. Consuming beetroots regularly creates a potential safeguard against age-old brain ailments.

Broccoli

Broccoli is one of those green vegetables that often receive a mixed response. The fact is that the advantages of eating broccoli are many. It contains good amounts of folic acid which helps prevent Alzheimer. It does a lot of good to the brain as well. Coming with Vitamin K and choline in high levels, broccoli also helps in keeping your memory sharp.

Besides, it also contains sulforaphane, a sulfur-based phytonutrient that helps reduce inflammation in brain.

Walnuts

Nuts prove very efficient when it comes to preventing memory loss or cognitive disorders. This is because they contain a good amount of monounsaturated fats, vitamins and minerals. Walnuts not only help boost mental alertness, but also ward off Alzheimer.

Consumption of these brain foods improves your memory and concentration, thereby helping you to make intelligent decisions. We, being foodies, have a coinciding belief – for us, intelligent decision making begins with booking our table in advance, and taking advantage of the offers and discounts that come along, to make our experience of eating out a pleasant one!  What about you?

No matter what brand they are or what technology they ride, phones have considerably become out of date. The same old design and features are no more enough to make a phone user excited. However, the phone has replaced lot many things in our life that having one is more of a necessity that luxury. This is what all of us think while we plan to buy a new phone, but the things would change with the launch of the most awaited phone of the year, “Samsung S8”.

The first glimpse of the phone is so appealing that you cannot resist yourself from picking up the marvel. The siblings, S8 and the larger Galaxy S8+ are so special. They are indeed the best production of Samsung boasting their technical soundness. It appears as a bright phone but the time will tell what is in store.

key features of Samsung S8

Credit: TechCrunch

Here are some key features of Samsung S8:

Design:

Samsung Galaxy S8 has won the design title of the year. It is the best phone you must have seen so far. The curvy phone slips smoothly in your palm and glitters with every light stroke. It comes in three color shades; Bright silver, grey with blue tone and dark black. The phone is slim and weighs only 155 grams. The phone boasts of two features; IP68 water & dust resistant.  The phone has a wide display which ultimately eats up all the space of the fingerprint sensor. So, the sensor is placed at the back of the phone, a feature that isn’t a plus point.

HDR on the phone:

The phone has a 2960 x 1440 resolution and comes with a ‘Mobile HDR Premium’ certification. This makes it easy for you to stream Netflix and Amazon Prime videos. This is an impeccable feature that a phone can have. Now you can treat your eyes with bright pictures with better contrast.  However, this feature doesn’t help much in terms of picture display.

Power:

The phone has amazing power inside. If you are in Europe & Asia you will get a phone with Exynos 8895 chipset, whereas for people in the USA the phone has Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. However, this won’t make a huge difference as both the CPU are fast and steady.

Samsung Galaxy S8 camera

Credit : ZDNet

Camera:

The phone does not show many upgrades in terms of Camera. There is a single 12-megapixel sensor at the back of the phone with f/1.7 wide lens. The camera employs dual-pixel tech which is an old feature of Samsung. The only noticeable change is the multi-frame image processor. The processor takes three shots every time you take a picture. This reduces blur and makes your pictures smarter.

Software:

With mature, angular and edgy screen icons the phone comes out as a great invention of Samsung. It has a stark white color theme that makes the phone striking and all the Samsung’s Native Apps are well adapted to the theme.  With this phone, Samsung has launched its rival to Siri, Bixby. The Bixby button enables you to get started fast and thus you are going to rely on this personal assistant soon.  The Bixby’s home also presents you news, notifications, steps, heart rate, preferred YouTube videos and much more.

So this is all we know about Samsung Galaxy S8 so far. The phone appears to be something different in the first impression, now the time will only tell where and how will this phone secure a place in the market.

Video gaming and racing in particular is changing faster than ever. With today’s powerful game consoles and every day evolving computer hardware, racing simulation has never been more realistic. It is still a serious investment, but with the right planning, you can get a real home racing simulator that is actually worth every penny.

The key part in every proper indoor driving seat simulator is the racing seat. This is what you can not compromise with. After all, the real driving experience totally depends on how good you body is held in the simulation cockpit. Sim racing is all about the real feel you get from your driving, right in the middle of your living room. The better and more realistic you race seat is, the better and more realistic you racing will be. That’s why most of the racing simulators come with seats made by people with great experience in racing seat manufacturing. Brands like Corbeau. A true racing legend and part of almost all of the modern motor racing events. There is no other way of experiencing a true driving simulation. Nothing else can possibly provide you with more accurate and precise body position in order to achieve the maximum skill you need for total race control.

The other major important part in completing the indoors racing simulation is the chassis of the simulator. This is the base you have the rest of the units attached to. It provides support for the race seat plus optimal steering wheel, pedals and other gaming accessories position. Its importance is probably as big as the actual seat. After all, this the unit that provides the driver with stability and confidence. Two things you need almost all the time when racing. The seat is nothing without the chassis support. Not to mention the need of strong and reliable wheel and pedals support. This is what makes the sim racer real as possible. Stability and control the two main advantages that create the need for driving simulator.

The next stage of accomplishing a realistic racing seat simulator is the wheel and pedals. They quite depend on the actual game console you have though. That’s because of the different manufactures console orientation. Apparently they all have chosen their preferred platforms and most of them are only compatible with only one console maker. The PC wheels are better in this. As long as the PC is powerful enough to run the latest video games, the wheels will work as well. For example Logitech, the world’s most advanced steering wheels maker, is only available for Play Station 3. With some PC exclusions. But still Logitech are so PS3 orientated. Luckily their flag model the G25 is both Play Station and PC compatible. Same as its successor – the G27. They offer the best steering experience the budget under 200 can buy.

They are both very, very good. The Logitech Driving Force GT is still good in many ways, but totally PS3 compatible. It wont work on anything else, but that’s understandable, because the GT stays for GranTurismo, which is a PS3 racer. If you love this game, GT is the wheel for you. Its very affordable and at the same time very useful as well. A great entry level solution for your driving race seat simulator. There are some wireless wheels available as well. But the word wireless is bit wrong, because in order to have the force feed back and other ‘special’ steering effects, you will need power supply. And although the wheel is not physically connected to the console, the power supply is still wired.

So don’t bother with going for something called ‘wireless’. Well, as long you are not a Xbox360 user. Microsoft’s latest steering wheel solution only comes in ‘wireless’ option. No panic though. Their wheel is great when played with Xbox360’s racing titles.

Project Gotham Racing for instance is something the Play Station platforms are missing in so many ways. A must have title for your Xbox racing simulation sessions. It seems that I have accidentally entered the console topic already. . .

I left this for last, because no matter your driving game seat. The seat maker and chassis. The price you paid for the wheel or your TV size. Everything comes down to one thing and one thing only – the video game platform. After all the gaming software is the original racing simulator. Everything else is just useful accessories that make your race better. You can spend thousands on racing seats and latest wheels but without a proper racing game, a console or a PC to run it on, your gear is just a pile of heavy duty steel, plastic and high quality fabric.

Yes the platforms. And if so far, you haven’t had any problems with assembling your dream game racing cockpit simulator, apart of the prices probably. You are about to have some.

Because all these gaming platforms manufactures are bursting so many racing titles (and actually all good lately), that a normal racing fen is just getting so confused. Confused what platform to go for, then which games titles to buy. Especially the PC gamers. Oh, I feel for them, the poor things. They need to upgrade so often, that if I were them, I was just gonna give up and find another hobby.

And even if the money is not an issue for some, the problem with titles is still big. Say you like Formula One and hot pursuits. That means that you need the Formula One Championship Edition. Which is, sadly, only available for Play Station 3. And the Test Drive Unlimited.

At the moment the only way to turn your racing simulator into a real F1 cockpit open wheel car is to go for the PS3 racer. Rumor has it, that Codemasters are developing a new Formula One game for the 2009 season, but it won’t be available for PS3 or Xbox360 until next March. They will release something for Play Station Portable and Nintendo Wii, but cm-on, who plays racing games on a PSP, Eh Or the Wii The Nintendo’s best seller is only good for kids go-kart games. And the Test Drive game.

The all time legend is back but only for PC, Xbox360 and Play Station 2! So what happens? You like Formula One and buy PS3 and at the same time you need to get yourself an Xbox or a powerful PC in order to experience the thrilling roads of the magical Hawaiian island. Same with the Xbox users. They love their PGR4 to peaces but still want to have a go on the Formula One game. Thats a can’t do.

They can’t even invest in their old PC because the world’s latest and only Formula One video racer won’t work on it. It’s for PS3 only.

And this is happening with so many other racing games as well. The only people who don’t complain are these who only drive GranTurismo and despise everything else. Or their Xbox equivalent the Project Gotham Racing followers. Decisions, decisions…..

Life is little bit easier for the fly boys. Most of the flight simulators are available for all platforms. Almost every game console and PC. And all you need to convert your racing car simulator into the cockpit of an air fighter is only a few bits and bobs. Just a couple of additional mounting platforms for the joysticks and keyboard. And your game racer becomes an air fighter cockpit.

The world is still not ready for an absolute video games and platforms compatibility. Maybe it will never be. Not in the way we, the games, prefer it anyway. But one thing is clear. Video games, being motor racing or flight sims, will always require comfortable and solid simulators. There is no racing sitting on your sofa and playing with the normal controller. Or the total illusion – having your steering wheel attached on the coffee table.

No. With today’s gaming becoming more and more real you have never had a better chance to touch the realism closer then the touch you get from your game simulator racing seat. Real game simulation is nothing without control.

A simple mechanism that sends out electrical current from the battery to the starter is known as the starter solenoid. A starter solenoid is an automotive relay being placed between a vehicle’s battery and its starter motor. A solenoid responds to a small electric current from the ignition system then switches a large electric current from the battery to the starter motor.

Every time the key is being turned, the solenoid engages. The starter solenoid uses an electrical motor in the starter to keep the car engine running. If it is not functioning properly, the vehicle may not start. However, a solenoid is not always the root of the problem. Determining whether the cause of the issue is the starter solenoid, battery or the starter itself is important to save time and money by repairing it yourself or seeking someone for help.

When a faulty starter solenoid or a good solenoid does not get enough power from the battery, it fails to run a vehicle. How to jump a starter solenoid is important to know because it will work well for both testing the component and starting a vehicle even if it has a defective solenoid. So, let’s dig into the necessary steps to jump a starter solenoid and narrow down the causes that may make the car fail to start.

How to Jump a Starter Solenoid

Installing solenoid may sound difficult to be done because sometimes it has a dangerous procedure which will cause a shock. Bear in mind that when a solenoid goes out, you can’t make your car start and typically, it will leave you stranded when ignored. This is why you have to do it and you will get it done.

WARNINGS!

In jumping the starter solenoid, you will be turning the screwdriver or other metals employ into a manual switch. Be careful in performing the process for it can turn your body into the conduit as well. Always get the screwdriver off of the contacts soon enough or burn the starter motor out.

Bear in mind that this is a dangerous procedure, don’t do it unless you absolutely have to start the vehicle. Use a rubber-handled screwdriver and be careful in every step you take.

Step 1

Pop up the hood and find or locate the starter solenoid. The solenoid can be found in the fender well of the vehicle. This is something like near the battery.

Step 2

Get a screwdriver and touch the metal end of the post leading to the starter. It is opposite to the one that leads to the battery. Turn the screwdriver into a manual switch. It should bypass the solenoid in the process.

Step 3

Then drop the other end of the screwdriver down. To make it done well, you still need to touch the metal on the shaft of the solenoid to both terminals on the solenoid. Have your assistant to turn the ignition in order to make the vehicle start at the same time. In doing this, you may notice a lot of sparks which could pass electrical current through your body. To avoid this, use a rubber-handled screwdriver and don’t touch the connection lengthily.

Step 4

Lastly, remove the screwdriver from the starter solenoid. Never left it on too long because it can arc the weld itself to both terminals and it will give a pretty bad effect on the process. At this step, the vehicle should be running without any interruptions. However, if it is not, do repeat the process again.

Going Deep with Starter Solenoid

A starter solenoid is the part of an automobile. The starter solenoid can be found above the starter motor. It changes a large electric current to the starter motor, in response to a small control current. In turn, the engine starts. The function of a starter solenoid is the same to that of a transistor. The only difference is that it is using an electromagnetic solenoid rather than semiconductor to perform the switching.

In case your starter solenoid is needed to be changed, buy a new one ensuring it will keep you up. You can look on Autofella.com for more tips and a wide variety of choices.

Watching movies has always been a favourite pastime among Malaysians. Whether it is done with family and friends, as a dating activity among couples, or just a way to spend some alone time with me, myself, and I, watching movies is always an enjoyable experience. Throw in the sinful combination of popcorn, soft drinks, and snacks to make the experience even more memorable.

Despite watching movies being an integral part of a Malaysian’s life, Malaysians typically have a tendency to watch international films compared to local productions. Due to the reason that technology and the infrastructure in the local film industry is not as advanced as Hollywood and other countries such as the UK, South Korea, and China, it is not unnatural that audiences are more drawn to international films for the advanced CGI effects and cinematography.

However, in recent years, the local movie industry has begun to show a positive growth, garnering more support from Malaysians, probably due to the relatable storyline that highlights the ups and downs of becoming Malaysians. Hence, as a born and bred Malaysian (and proud of it!), here is my take on the Top 5 Malaysian movies that deserve an Oscar nomination.

Ola Bola (2016)

Nothing quite beats a movie that brings you back in time and reminds you of the nostalgic times – Ola Bola by local director Chiu Keng Guan is such a movie. Shown in the silver screen last year, the movie highlights the glory days of country’s football scene. Set in the 1970-1980s era, the movie portrays the golden times of the legendary Harimau Malaya (Malayan Tigers) team and its struggles both on and off the football field to eventually qualify for the 1980 Summer Olympics.

The main characters for the movie reflected the life of local football icons such as team captain Soh Chin Aun (fondly known as “taukeh” for his ability to intercept his opponent’s movements and exceptional timing on the field), Datuk R. Arumugam (nicknamed “The Spiderman” for his long limbs that made him an awesome goalkeeper), Santokh Singh, known as one of the best defenders in Asia during his prime, and James Wong (a.k.a King James Wong), the first Sabahan to represent Malaysia on the world stage and scorer of the winning goal that enabled Malaysia to qualify for the 1980 Olympics.

The Ola Bola movie tugged the heartstrings of Malaysians and within 13 days of release, the movie earned RM8 million in ticket sales. After 39 days in the box office, it raked in a total of RM16.5 million, making it the one of the highest-grossing Malaysian-made movie to date. This movie deserves an Oscar nomination for its heartwarming storyline that touched the hearts of Malaysians young and old.

The Journey (2014)

Prior to his success for the Ola Bola movie, Director Chiu Keng Guan first stamped his name in the local film industry with a Malaysian-Chinese film, The Journey. The Journey is a multiple award-winning movie in the local scene, winning awards for Best Non-Malay Language Local Film and Best Cinematography.

The storyline of the movie revolves around Uncle Chuan, a conservative patriarch who upholds Chinese traditions and beliefs strongly, and his daughter Bee, who returns home from England with a Caucasian fiancé, Benji in-tow. Being the conservative Chinese that he is, Uncle Chuan refuses to give his blessings for the upcoming marriage, with cultural differences and a language barrier set to potentially damage the matrimony of Benji and Bee. Despite a lack of understanding towards each other, Benji and Uncle Chuan embark on a nationwide journey to hand-deliver wedding invitations. Along the way, they forge a surprising bond that enables them to accept each other’s differences and overcome existing cultural and social boundaries.

This movie deserves an Oscar nomination for its value-filled storyline, promoting important values such as multiculturalism, bonhomie, and mutual understanding amongst different races. The plot contains a heartwarming message and sprinkles of subtle comedy, making it a favourite among Malaysians. This movie amassed a total of RM17.16 million in sales in the box office, one of the highest-grossing local productions thus far.

Bunohan (Return to Murder) (2012)

Directed by local filmmaker Dain Iskandar Said and officially released in Malaysia on March 2012, Bunohan was featured in the Toronto International Film Festival 2011, where it received rave reviews for its visceral storyline. Subsequently, the film was selected as Malaysia’s official entry for the 85th Academy Awards in 2013 in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Unfortunately, it did not make the final shortlist but it is an achievement to be proud of, being the second domestic film to be submitted to the Academy Awards. Other achievements also include winning eight awards in the 25th Malaysian Film Festival for major categories such as Best Picture, Best Story, Best Screenplay, and Best Director.

Bunohan is a dark drama thriller involving three brothers that were born on the Malaysia-Thailand border town of Bunohan. The main character, Adil is a young kickboxer that was in debt, with slim hopes of paying his creditors. As an act of desperation, Adil agrees to an illegal high-stakes match at a boxing club located at the Thai end of the border. When Adil was losing badly in the ring, his best friend Muski burst into the ring to break up the match and escort Adil away. This made the promoters upset, thus sending a hired killer to execute Adil. While escaping, Adil ends up in Bunohan, the village in which he was born and raised in, but eventually left. Here, he finds out he and the hired killer are half-brothers. Moreover, he found out that his estranged family was going to sell off a piece of land for large amounts of money.

Revolving around a seedy underworld, the movie involves themes of greed, ruthlessness, and revenge, basically ingredients that make an intriguing movie. It was a locally and internationally acclaimed movie which deserves at least an Oscar nomination.

Sepet (2004)

The late Yasmin Ahmad is a legendary filmmaker that is known for her cinematography with compelling storyline and heartwarming values. Sepet was one of her most renowned productions and an absolute gem in her repertoire of impressive movies. Sepet is a romantic comedy set in Ipoh Malaysia, telling the tale of an inter-cultural love between a Chinese boy, Ah Loong and a Malay girl, Orked.

19-year-old Ah Loong sells unlicensed VCDs for a living with an unexpected hobby – reading and writing poetry. His life takes an expected turn when Orked, a Malay schoolgirl, visits his stall to look for films starring her favourite actor, Takeshi Kaneshiro. It was love at first sight and feelings progressively grew stronger between them. However, Ah Loong’s past caught up to him as he found out that he impregnated a former fling, who happened to be a gangster head’s younger daughter. However, in the altercation, the girl’s brother was injured and so Ah Loong had decided to take responsibility and take care of the girl and her unborn baby, until the baby is born. Eventually, Orked had to leave the country to pursue her studies in England, meaning a tearful farewell between the lovebirds.

Sepet earned international awards including the Best Film award in the 27th Creteil International Women’s Film Festival in France (2005) and the Best Asian Film Award in the 18th Tokyo International Film Festival, proving that this film is indeed worthy of an Oscar nomination.

Ice Kacang Puppy Love (2010)

Ice Kacang Puppy Love is a Malaysian romantic comedy film that was directed and starred by rising actor and director, Ah Niu. The film was a five-time award winner in the first-ever Golden Wau Awards in 2013, winning awards for Best Movie, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Art Design. A commendable achievement for an up-and-coming director! The story portrays two childhood friends who grew up together, with the young boy nicknamed Botak trying to convey his love to his long-time crush, Fighting Fish.

The story’s setting the 1980s in a small town in Perak known as Tronoh. Botak, who is in his early twenties and youngest son of a coffee-shop owner, harbours a secret crush on his childhood, Anqi (nicknamed Fighting Fish), daughter of a char kuey teow seller who rents a stall space in the coffeeshop. However, being the reserved boy that he is, he was never bold enough to confess his feelings and instead conveyed it by drawing portraits of Fighting Fish. Many quirky and heartwarming scenes later, the tear-jerking ending begins when Anqi decided to leave for Singapore to further her studies. On the day of her departure, Botak brought a packet of ice-kacang, a local dessert that Anqi used to drink with Botak whenever she was upset, and an unread love letter. This moved Anqi to tears (as she discovered Botak’s portrait of her the night before). During the hasty goodbye, Botak forgot to hand over the love letter before leaving the scene, which he later regrets for hesitating to confess his love to Anqi.

These five movies have gained success in the local and international film arena and are proud testaments of Malaysian cinematography. In my opinion, these deserve the accolade of an Oscar nomination for their efforts and contributions to the growth of Malaysia’s ever-developing film industry.

Imagine spending your last bit of cash on a lottery ticket as a whimsical solution to your penniless state and then finding out one morning that you had won, what would you feel? First off, you were truly lucky with odds of 1 in 13,983,816, you’ve got more chances of dying from animal attacks or diseases than winning the lottery.

Like any rational being would, a surge of happiness would instantly fill your body; you can finally afford your mortgage or even get a larger house, buy a nice car, get the latest gadgets, and everything you have ever wanted in life. However, would having large sums of money in your bank account elevate your level of happiness for the rest of your life?

What is Hedonic Adaptation

A study in 1978 by three researchers from the University of Massachusetts and Northwestern University wanted answers. So, they asked recent Illinois State lottery winners about their levels of happiness and comparing them to paraplegic and quadriplegic survivors of catastrophic accidents. Each group was asked to rate how much pleasure they derive from normal everyday activities such as chatting with a friend, hearing a joke or receiving a compliment. After analysing their results, they found out that the victim group felt happier in their everyday life compared to those who won the lottery.

Like a sick plot twist in a Shyamalan movie, the winners scored an average of 3.33 out of 5 in their level of happiness which is 0.15 points lower than the victim’s 3.48 average. Although winners reported having higher present happiness with an average of 4 out of 5 compared to a 2.96 from the accident victims, it is still higher than the midpoint range. This study sheds light on our level of happiness whether we have acquired extensive wealth or suffered a tragedy.

This is partially due to a phenomenon called hedonic adaptation or the hedonic treadmill. This describes our tendency to become used to the happiness after experiencing it for the first time. For example, landing the job that you have always wanted may give you happiness but the thrill wears off after a certain period of time. Though it may sound a little bit counterintuitive, hedonic adaptation helps us maintain a steady and emotional equilibrium which makes us less sensitive to any changes including negative events. This phenomenon allows us to revert back to our default emotional state after experiencing high levels of emotion whether good or bad.

Reasons Why Winning The Lottery May Not Make Us Happier

Piecing together this information, winning the lottery would make you happy but only for a short period of time. After getting used to the luxuries of having enough funds for grandiose homes, better food, and nicer clothes, we go back to how we used to feel before we won the prize. Therefore, winning the lottery doesn’t guarantee happiness, in fact, lottery winners even reported being unhappy after they have won the prize.

Difficulties In Managing Wealth

One of the reasons why this is so is because large sums of money can be a lot to manage. Take for example the case of Lisa Arcand from Massachusetts. She won $1 million in 2004 and like all winners, she went on lavish vacations and bought a nice house. However, a million dollars isn’t much for taxes; she even opened a restaurant to keep the cash flowing but to no avail, losing everything in 2007. Another example is Michael Caroll who turned from lottery winner to factory worker, even after winning £9.7 million in 2002. Janite Lee, Willie Hurt, and Lou Eisenberg, are just some of the many names that have won the lottery but went from rags to riches and back to rags because of poor financial decisions.

Winning The Lottery Can Be Socially Isolating

Aside from difficulty in managing finances, winning the lottery can be an isolating experience. Unwanted attention and unwanted requests for money from peers can make us paranoid and anxious. Eventually, lottery winners wind up cutting themselves from others because of the fear of being used as a just a source of money than a source of friendship.

It Can Make Us Greedy

While the constant fear of losing everything can haunt lottery winners, some even become more greedy than they were before winning. A study conducted by social-psychologist Paul Piff at the UC Berkeley Campus in California, proves that gaining wealth can actually change our behaviour drastically. Using a rigged game of Monopoly, Piff chose a player at random to play the game at a certain advantage such as more starting money, and better ability to move around the board. In just after 15 minutes, the advantaged players displayed dramatic change in behaviour including forceful movement of boardgame pieces, speaking louder, and even minute things such as eating more snacks compared to other players.

So, What Can Make Us Happy?

Winning the lottery does make us happy but thanks to hedonic adaptation, the thrill and excitement doesn’t last long. While most of us would indulge in a fabulous lifestyle after winning, there are ways that winning the lottery can make us happier than having the latest supercar in your garage.

Experiences vs Materialistic Things

Having a lot of money can open new opportunities for us to enjoy life more than just having expensive things. With hedonic adaptation embedded in our systems, finding what really guarantees happiness can be a hurdle on the way. However, findings show that people tend to adapt faster to extrinsic and material things than we do on experience. Travelling, exploring, and even learning a new skill, gives us more gratification than having the latest clothes from your favourite designer or luxury brand. Therefore, investing in experiences makes us happier than materialistic things.

Charity

Another thing that would help you convert your money into happiness is through charity. Believe it or not, giving others provides more happiness than spending it on yourself. A study by the University of British Columbia and Harvard Business School proved that spending more on others provides more happiness than spending it on yourself. Participants were asked to spend money however they wish, be it on themselves or unto others. Afterwards, a survey was conducted to rate their level of happiness. The group who donated their money to charity feel happier than those who spent it on themselves.

While having money does make us happy today, it doesn’t guarantee our happiness in the long-run. Thanks to hedonic adaptation, we get used to the emotions that we feel but we can get around it by making every penny count – not on materialistic things – but on experiences and by giving back to the community.

It’s Been a Crazy 2017 (So far)! http://www.groundreport.com/its-been-a-crazy-2017-so-far/ http://www.groundreport.com/its-been-a-crazy-2017-so-far/#respond Fri, 14 Apr 2017 05:39:40 +0000 http://www.groundreport.com/?p=5204547 One word that I will use to describe the first quarter of 2017 is… eventful. One word that I will use to describe the first quarter of 2017 is… eventful. Malaysians have experienced a flurry of events – both good and bad – that have made the first three months of 2017 far from silent. From winning unexpected international recognitions to a James-Bond-like assassination, let’s look back at some of the happening and memorable events that occurred thus far. Let’s start with the positives, followed by the aiyo, why like this lah? to the downright what-in-the-world-are-they-thinking moments.

Reasons to Celebrate

Thankfully, the first three months of 2017 gave Malaysians with many reasons to be happy about, from winning international acknowledgements to gifts bestowed by royalty.

From jaguh kampung (folk hero) to international superstar

Malaysians were given a decent surprise at the start of the year when local footballer Mohd. Faiz Subri had bagged the FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal for 2016. Although it was already an accomplishment to be nominated with the likes of Neymar and Lionel Messi (I think don’t need to explain how geng they are) it was truly impressive that a Malaysian would bag the goal of the year award. You can check out his goal and how it fared with the other nominees here. Combined with the Johor football team’s achievement of winning the Asian Football Confederation Cup (the continent’s second-biggest competition) in 2015, could Malaysia’s football scene be on a rise? *fingers crossed*

Leading the Wei As Usual

Photos by allenglandbadminton.com

Another proud accomplishment that Malaysians can gloat about is our favourite national badminton legend Dato’ Lee Chong Wei’s fourth All-England title. Dato’ Lee has always been the nation’s biggest shining star when it comes to winning championships and he definitely did not disappoint with his sublime win of the All-England title. What makes this win more impressive is that he is now 34 years old. Check out this awesome video of Chong Wei defeating Shi Yuqi from China.

Winning at an intensive stage like the All-England championships at his age is not an easy feat. Now the big question remains: with his looming retirement, who will step up to the plate and be the next shuttler that can emulate his success? Time will tell.

All Hail the King of Johor

Johoreans had a cause to rejoice for when the Sultan Ibrahim Foundation launched the “Bangsa Johor Dream House” project with Sultan Ibrahim’s birthday in March. Sultan Ibrahim has always been known as a generous and compassionate ruler to the people of Johor. The project will see people of the state having an opportunity to own a house for as low as RM80,000. As the cost of living is continuously increasing in the country, this initiative is a wonderful present bestowed by the Sultan of Johor. The honourable Sultan’s favour was greatly received by its countrymen.

The Not-So-Happy Moments

Despite the many events that made us smile, there were also some heart-wrenching occasions that happened. Some of the more prominent ones include:

I Will Look for You, I Will Find You, And I Will Kill You

It was hard to believe that Malaysia became a scene played right out of an action movie when the rightful heir to the North Korean leadership, Kim Jong-nam was hunted down and assassinated. Kim Jong Nam, the exiled heir and eldest son of former leader, Kim Jong-il, met his end when he was poisoned by two women who supposedly had direct orders from Pyongyang, the North Korean capital.

Never fully accepted by his family and ostracised by his powerful stepmother, Kim Jong-nam lived a life wandering abroad, haunted by fears of assassins. So far, the perpetrators – two women and four men – have been arrested and are still awaiting further actions as talks are still made between Malaysia and North Korea to resolve the issue.

Playing GTA Meh?

Another heart-wrenching event that occurred in March was a horrid accident that involved a woman and a newlywed man on the North-South Expressway (NSE). At 7:50am on March 14, 19-year-old Ng Pei Ven was driving the wrong way – heading towards oncoming traffic on the NSE and caused a chain of accidents which killed newlywed and soon-to-be father, Mohd. Fendi on the spot.

But wait, there’s more! Ng was supposedly high on drugs, more specifically methamphetamine, when she was driving which later was found out to be amphetamine. Here comes another plot twist, *jeng jeng jeng* In her defence, she revealed herself an OKU – a disabled person with a “masalah pembelajaran”, also known as learning disorder. Eventually, these reasons still do not justify her actions and she is now being charged under Section 44 (1)(a) of the Road Transport Act. If convicted, she will face a jail term of between 3 to 10 years or a fine of RM8,000 and RM20,000 or both.

The OMG Moments

The first quarter was not void of weird and unusual news, some that might make you scratch your head and think “what was he/she thinking?”

A Night of Suffer-Ring

A night of supposedly climactic pleasure came to an excruciating end for a man when a ball bearing device got stuck on his penis for more than 12 hours. The 20-something man supposedly used the ring to add pleasure and prolonging his erection while having sex with his wife. However, the gadget decided to punish him for misusing it by making itself stuck around his private part.

The man tried removing it by applying oil and soapy water but the gadget remained steadfast. Even the doctors also could not end his misery, so the firefighters had to come to the rescue instead. After 10 minutes, the gadget, which is suspected to be a pool pump, relented and was eventually removed. In case you were worried, the man assured that organ is still functional after the ordeal.

Are We Really Alone in this Universe?

Humans have always questioned our existence, wondering if there are extra-terrestrial beings (aliens lah in short) out there in the vast universe. In February, local news reported that UFOs were spotted flying around Komtar in Penang. A man named Wang Soon You supposedly managed to capture a video allegedly showing two white UFOs hovering over the Komtar Tower on his smartphone. He then uploaded the video on Facebook. Wang then uploaded a second video onto his Facebook page which shows others looking up to the skies and commenting on the UFOs that they believed to have spotted.

The original video apparently went viral, being shared more than 4,500 times and receiving more than 160 comments. Some claimed the aircraft to be drones, but others pointed out that the objects were too large to be drones. Until today, nobody knows what the objects are and we can only pray that they came in peace. Check out the video here and judge for yourself.

Apparently, this is not the first sighting of unidentified flying objects in Malaysian skies. In September 2016, another UFO was reportedly captured on film in a “ulu” village of Kuala Krai, located about 370km away from Kuala Lumpur. On the video, a large flying disc was captured and white light appeared to be pouring out of the center of the UFO-like object.

To a Better Year Ahead

As we step into the second quarter of the year, we hope that the rest of the year brings more blessings, lesser (none will be best lah) heartaches, and an abundance of reasons for us to grin and smile. Have a great year ahead everyone!

A car is an expensive item you cannot just wake up one day and buy. You have to check your finances and see if you are in a position to buy it. If you cannot afford it outright, it is advisable to come up with a saving plan. Here are some helpful tips you need to consider if you want to save for the car well.

Open a Savings Account

Don’t keep the money under your mattress. Go to your bank and ask them to open for you a savings account. Most savings accounts are free to open and do not require a lot of documentation. You can choose to ignore the bank and open an account with a credit union. The good thing about credit unions is that they do not have any fees like banks. Once you have the account, instruct your employer to send a fixed amount from your salary every month to the account via direct deposit.

Come Up With a Monthly Budget

You can only save for a car if you spend less than you earn. All your short and long-term financial goals revolve around your monthly budget. Make sure your budget allows you to save. You can adjust the budget to cut down on things you don’t need so that you get more money left. Things like TV cables, Wi-Fi and monthly vacations are luxurious. You can easily scrape them off your budget and channel the money towards your car savings account.

Determine the Desired Payment for the Car

You need to calculate how much the car will cost. Knowing the value of the car you want to buy will enable you come up with a robust saving plan. Divide the price of the car with the number of months you plan to save. For example, if you want to save for a car worth $10,000 for one year, it means your monthly savings should not be less than $833. It is advisable you leave some room for additional expenses such as oil changes, new tires and insurance. You can always go for free car insurance quotes to determine how much you will pay for the model you are planning to buy.

Work More

A car costs thousands of dollars. This amount can take you years to raise if your sources of income are limited. You can make the saving more effective and faster by working extra hours to bring home more money. There are many quick jobs you can do to get more money. You can take advantage of the available overtimes, become become a Lyft driver, babysit, do catering or deliver pizzas during weekends. You can also take advantage of numerous opportunities available online. For instance, you can become an online coach, blogger or a marketer at Craigslist. All these activities can give you a considerable amount of money for your savings account.

Trick Yourself

Sometimes we don’t save just because we lack the motivation to do so. You could always trick yourself to get the motivation. Take some time and consider the beautiful things you could do with a car. Think about the breath-taking road trips you could have and the cool places you could travel to.

Save Less for Retirement

All 401(k) matches stop at 6 percent. This means that you can comfortably direct your contributions towards saving for the car after reaching this mark. However, talk with your HR department first to see if it is okay to stop the matches to avoid penalties.

Ask for Support

Do not struggle with a strict saving plan yourself. You can always talk to your family members to let them know that you are saving for a car. Doing this will not only give you the energy to save, but it will also prevent awkward situations where a friend or family member constantly invites you to go shopping every weekend.

Who hasn’t dreamed of working and traveling? There’s no better way to enjoy youth and enrich ourselves! If you hate routines, if you want to live an exciting life or if you are migrating and you need to start doing something to survive while you find a formal job according to your profession, continue reading. Here we have some popular ways to make money while you get to know the whole globe!

Of course, the choices will vary depending on your skills, experience, availability and expectations. Take a look at the different options so you can try different things.

  1. Teach English. This is probably the most popular job when it comes to working and traveling. You can find tons of Teaching English jobs on the web, and you can choose to do it online or in-class. Sometimes, if you are a native speaker, recruiters won’t ask you for a certification, so this can be useful if you are looking for extra income while moving temporarily. But if you want to take it seriously, it is recommended that you obtain a TESOL certification, because, with one of these, you can obtain better jobs and better payments. If you speak any other language you can always make it work too. Being a teacher is an excellent option even if you have other types of skills. You can teach music, dance, photography, etc., or you can also be an instructor for any sport that you know, such as surfing, scuba diving, yoga or pilates!

  1. Work in a Resort, Hotel/Hostel or even selling timeshares. The touristic sector always hires people from any nationality to work in the reception, in the restaurant, in the cleaning department or in the entertainment department. Again, if you are a native English speaker, you have very good chances to work in the touristic sector of any country, and if you feel like you have the gift to sell EVERYTHING, you can try selling timeshares or other special promotions. That will usually mean extra income for every timeshare or promotion that you sell.

  1. Be a travel Blogger (or any kind of blogger). It is very common these days, as social networks such as Facebook and Instagram give the opportunity to share photos, videos or any post with everyone. The trick is to have a lot of followers, and the money comes from the publicity that the companies can do with you, or with your site. YouTube is starting to become very popular too, but instead of bloggers, users are called “YouTubers”. Being a blogger is something like being a celebrity, but you won’t need a contract or a manager to start making money.

  1. Try housesitting or babysitting. This is a pretty good idea if you are looking for extra income when you are traveling, and it is kind of easy because you just have to take care of a house (if the owners are outside for vacation, work, etc.), old people or children. Keep in mind, the job is not about sitting and watching T.V. or eating Cheetos while you keep an eye on things. You’ll have a duty with the house, the person or the baby/kid you are taking care of, so you need to really be responsible for your work.

  1. Be a bartender or work in a cafe shop/restaurant. Bars and restaurants or cafes are another sectors where you can work while traveling, and if you have a bartender certification or a cooking course, you’ll be preferred. Bartending is a job that is usually done at nights, so the good part is that you can have the days off to do any other activity. On the contrary, cafe shops and restaurants have an extended schedule so the shifts are varied, and you can choose the one that you like the most, depending on the availability too.

  1. Design websites. If you have this profession, you have a very good chance to work online as you travel. The pay tends to be really good, and it is a job that can be done from home, no matter where you live. Once you have your client list, you just have to do a very good job so they can recommend you to their friends and partners. You won’t even need to look for new customers if you move to another place. Anyways, there are a lot of jobs posted online to look for one as a web designer if you need it.

  1. Work in the Construction field. Mostly for men, but women too, construction jobs are found EVERYWHERE, and you don’t need the experience to start doing one. You’ll need to be strong, because construction jobs are about charging, digging, mixing, etc., maybe in the sun or any type of extreme weather. Yes, the payment is really good, but it is kind of hard.

Give yourself a chance and start having a great experience! It does not matter the reason why you are looking for a job while traveling, just choose to do something you’ll enjoy as much as your trip!
