Days before Barack Obama’s inauguration as, Eric Holder went before the Senate Judiciary Committee. This is in preparation before becoming the new United States Attorney General. He was asked about waterboarding, which is a former of simulated drowning. Holder bluntly said that waterboarding is torture.
Last week, it was announced that Holder’s confirmation would have to wait at least a week. This came from concerts out of GOP Senators. They are concerned about Holder’s role in then US President Bill Clinton’s pardon of Marc Rich.
So far, GOP Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania was Holder’s toughest critic. Today, Specter said that he would give his vote to confirm Holder. Specter said he feels that Holder accepted responsibility for his mistake in pardoning Rich. He said that Holder is a good person for the job of US Attorney General.
Perhaps a thumbs-up from Specter is something Holder may need in regards to his confirmation. Again, Specter was Holder’s biggest critic. It seemed that Specter did a number in regards to grilling Holder in regards to Rich.
“I think Mr. Holder is entitled to the benefit of the doubt,” said Specter.
