What can’t I post on GroundReport?

We ask that our contributors do not post hate language, pornography, copyrighted or plagiarized material, press releases or advertisements.

All reports must be your original work.

How can I get more people to read my articles?

Help the world find your articles by using tools like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Yahoo! Buzz, del.icio.us and your own blog to promote your reports.

GroundReport gives contributors a range of Creative Commons licenses to choose from.

 

Who owns the rights to my work?

You retain all rights to your work. You can choose from a range of Creative Commons licenses to tell people how you’d like your work used.

GroundReport reserves the right to broadcast your article via GroundReport.com. You can delete your article or make it inactive whenever you wish.

How can I comment on an article?

To comment on an article, you must create an account and log in. This is to prevent spam and abuse in GroundReport comments.

Why does GroundReport ask writers to create accounts?

We ask contributors to create accounts to prevent spam and abuse from compromising the integrity of GroundReport content. The more you fill out your profile, the credibility you establish.  Describe where you went to school, what you’ve reported on and why you should be trusted.  Link to existing work online.

Do I have to create an account to read GroundReport?

No. You can read articles on GroundReport.com without creating an account or signing in. If you’d like to post an article or comment on an article, you’ll need to create an account and sign in.

What can you do on GroundReport?

On GroundReport contributors can post articles with images…

  • Track how many people are viewing your articles on your profile/archive page of the website.
  • Reach an international audience.
  • Build your profile and present your articles at your own web address. It’ll read:

What is GroundReport?

GroundReport.com is a citizen news portal that enables anyone to instantly publish articles, photos and video to a global audience. The GroundReport community rates each other’s work, and the best reports make it to the front page.

To maintain standards, all articles must be approved by our editor team prior to publication.  Contributors who establish a strong track record of high journalistic standards may be added to GroundReport’ Contributor Whitelist, attaining immediate publication of reports.

GroundReport’s mission is to democratize the media by bringing hyperlocal, on-the-ground perspectives on today’s news headlines. Share your story and help inform the world.

What are GroundReport’s guidelines?

Your work must be:

Original— You must have the right to distribute the content you publish.  Copyrighted materials to which you do not have the rights are strictly prohibited.

Noncommercial— you aren’t trying to sell anything, make people click or collect email addresses.

News— concerning world events and developments.

True— must be completely accurate and unadultered

Suggestioned stories: personal, local and firsthand accounts of events you witnessed yourself.  Issues that matter to a specific, defined region or community.

Strictly Forbidden!

Unoriginal work.  Shortcut: if you didn’t make it, don’t post it.  Don’t copy from a blog or forum.  More examples below…

— Articles from other news sites. Articles, images or videos that are not your original work will be deleted immediately.

— “Purchased” articles.  There are websites that sell the rights to articles for reprint–GroundReport will not publish these articles.  Again, all your posts must be original work– even if you own the rights.

Pornography, hate and obscenity.  Anything sexual or hateful in nature or using gratuitously using strong language and expletives will be removed.

Commercial articles, advertisements and press releases.  Anything linking to an affiliate or trying to sell something is strictly forbidden.

How do I create an account?

Click Register to create an account.

How do I publish an article?

First, register to be a reporter. Once you’re signed in:

  1. Select the Publish an Article tab located on the home page.
  2. To publish an article, select Publish. If you’re not ready, Save as Draft instead. You can also preview your article prior to publishing it.
