Brown Vs Kim

The night started out with one of the better fights of the Night; Dong Hyun Kim versus Matt Brown. Matt Brown was relentless constantly press forward and land punch and controlling the octagon. However, Kim was able to capitalize with some perfect judo throws and score with take down. Kim was also able to take brown back several times and sink in a rear naked choke. Brown was able to avoid the submission attempt and put the fight back on his feet were he was picking apart Kim. Unfortunately, fight went to the judge scorecard, split decision for Kim. The crowd showed there dissatisfaction with the fight by boo during the post fight interview.

Martin Kampmann Vs Nate Marquardt

This was a quick one. Nate Marquardt connects and the fight was over in the first minutes of the first round. Fight decision was a Technical Knock out.

Tim Boetsch Vs Michael Patt

This one did not last much longer than the Kampmann/Marquardt fight. Boetsch land a punch that sent Patt to the mat. Boetsch followed Patt to the ground and got one or two good blow in before the ref pulled him off. This one made it to the second minute of the first round. Fight decision was a Technical Knock out.

Dan Henderson VS Rousimar Palhares

This could have been one of the best fights of the night BBJ black belt versus world class wrestling. However, it was a relatively slow fight. Palhares had a couple of submission attempt that Henderson was able to escape from quickly. The rest of the fight was mostly Henderson land punch from the out side but not being able to land the big shot. This fight also went to the Judge score card being ruled as and unanimous decision for Dan Henderson.

Rich Franklin Vs Matt Hamill

This was a classic battle of grappler versus striker at least on paper. This fight stayed on it feet almost the entire fight. Matt was able to take Rich down in the first round but was not able to do much the fight went back to the feet. Rich game plan from the beginning was to come out tear Hamill leg apart, Rich was connection on leg kick after leg kick, This is probably why the match never went to the ground, Hamill leg took so much abuse for Rich he lost a step and the shoot were not fast enough to take Franklin down. Hamill drew first blood leaving a nasty gash beside Franklin eye. The doctor came in gave it a look and let him continue to fight. Then the fight can to sudden stop in the first minutes of the 3^rd rd as Franklin Land a kick to the stomach that dropped Hamill.

Chuck Liddell Vs Rashad Evens

This was the main event and a huge upset. Round one was felling each other out not a lot of action. Round two over in the quickly are Liddell throw an uppercut that was intended to know Rashad out. Unfortunately for Chuck Rashad connect an overhand right that put Chuck to sleep. Fight decision was a Knock out.

Side Note: I watch the event on Comcast on Demand. The Picture was consonantly blocky and green. Comcast stated that this was a broadcaster issue and if you paid you should see a credit for a portion of the purchase on you next bill.

UFC88 Breakthrough

On September 06, 2008 the UFC arrives in Atlanta Georgia bring with it some of the best fighter in the world. The main event to night will feature Chuck” the iceman” Liddell (21-5) vs. Rashad “Sugar” Evens (16-0-1). Liddell the former light heavyweight champion coming off a hamstring injury which has postponed this fight until now. Rashad Evens who is undefeated in his professional fight career is coming of a split decision win over Michael Bisping. This fight may determind who will get the next title shot in the light heavyweight division. Rashad is know to have great wrestling abilities combine with great knockout power. Liddell is the best counter puncher in the business with excellent take down defense. This should turn out to be a slug fest with the winner being whoever connect first.

Rich “Ace” Franklin is making his 205 lbs debut against Matt “The Hammer” Hamill. This is Rich (25-3) debut fight in the 250 weight class. Franklin has great stand up and along with a well verse ground game. He has beat everyone the UFC has put in front of him except for Anderson Silvia who has dominated everyone. Matt has a very good and decent stand up but this is his weight class and is comfortable. This will be a good match to test the water for Franklin and see if he can handle the bigger opponents. Hamill has a opportunity to help make a name for himself by beating a former champion, Franklin. A dominating performance by either of these men will move them up the ranking and put them in line for a title shot.

Other fight include Karo Parisyan (25-5) vs. Yoshyuki Yoshida (10-2), Dan Henderson (22-7) vs. Rousimer Palhares (17-1), Martin Kampmann (13-1) vs. Nate Marquardt (29-8), Thiago Tavares (17-2) vs. Kurt Pellegrino ( 17-4), Tim Boestsch (7-2) vs. Michael Patt (15-2), Dong Hyun Kim (10-0-1) vs. Matt Brown (10-6), Jason Lambert (23-8) vs. Jason MacDonald (21-10), and Rpan Carnerio (12-7) vs. Ryo Chonan.

Update

Due to a i back injury to Karo Parisyan this fight has been cancelled. Matt Brown vs Dong Hyun Kim has been move up as the replacement. The event will now only feature nine bouts.

Randy Couture Returns

After over a year of contract dispute with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Randy “the natural” Couture returns to the octagon. He will be headlining the main event at UFC 91 on November 15 to defend his Heavyweight championship. He will be taking on what many consider the next big thing, Brock Lesner. Lesner who is 2-1 in his professional fight career is coming off a dominating performance against Heath Hearing, will now attempt to step up and fight a legend in the Mix Martial Arts world. The 45 year old Couture (15-8) has an emeses amount of ring experience compare to the new comer Lesner. While Lesner will is slightly larger 6’3 265 lbs versus 6’2 220lbs Randy has beaten larger opponents most notably Tim Sylvia (almost 7”) to win his title back at UFC 68 in March 2007. The question on most people mind is why is Lesner getting the 1^st title shot? Should the Interim champion Antonio Nogueira get the first chance? He is the Champion while Randy was gone. Has Randy year away from the ring show? Will Lenser be able to overcome the experience of Couture? We will all have to wait till November 15^th to find out the answer. This fight could be a sign of the changing of the guard in the Heavy weight division.
