A spokesman of the Finance Department has denied the news report carried by a section of press captioned "Treasuries have emptied ahead of Id-ul-Fitr". The spokesman said that in view of the Id-ul-Fitr, all the bills have been cleared and even the payday, for the month of September 2008 has advanced to September 27.
Giving details about the amount paid from different treasuries of the state with effect from 25th September 2008, the spokesman said that an amount of Rs. 2308.57 crores has been paid from different treasuries of the state with effect from 25.07.2008.
He said an amount of Rs. 526.07 crore has been released on 25th & 27th September 2008 against different like-wise object heads of expenditure clearing various bills and cheques at treasuries. Bills and cheques pertaining to Salary, Pension, Wages, Leave salary, Ex-gratia, Relief Contractor Firms, Material & Supplies, SHG, Corporation, CDF, Drug Diet, Land Compensation and others have also been cleared up to 27.09.2008. He further said that GPF and Gratuity Commutation bills have been cleared up to 12.09.2008. Even the salaries for the month of September 2008, which were due to be cleared on or after 29.09.2008, have been paid today on 27th September 2008.
The spokesman said that an amount of Rs. 50 crore has been released in favor of Food Corporation of India during September, 2008 on account of food grains lifted by the State Government and an amount of Rs. 695.55 crore has been paid on account of power purchases from different corporations with effect from 01.04.2008.
The spokesman has made it absolutely clear that there is no discrimination between the treasuries of Jammu province with the treasuries of Kashmir province. All items are being released by Finance Department up to a particular date without any consideration of the location of the treasuries.
