I’m so proud to announce my latest release, which hit stores last Month…
BRITNEY SPEARS!!! =)
So of course I hit up the local Best Buy store because who else sells CDs anymore?! lol. And while I was there, right beside the Britney album, I see another album I didn’t even know I was on. My Justin Bieber song, “Somebody To Love”, has made its way onto yet another album, Never Say Never… (that makes 5 albums this song has been on! Wow!)
I am so honored and humbled to be a part of this project! I still can’t believe I’m holding a copy of a Britney Spears album that has my song on it! The politics alone on a project of this caliber are enough to make a songwriter at my level (I’ve never had a top 10) think “…oh if only… maybe one day!”
*cues “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”*
So calling this a “dream come true” would be a complete understatement! In fact, I’ll never forget riding home from high school one afternoon when "…Baby One More Time" came on the radio.
When I tell you I lost my mind… I was like Cameron Diaz in “Vanilla Sky!” I nearly crashed the car and I even remember what road I was driving down when it came on. I didn’t know what this girl looked like, who she was or where she was from… but I knew that song was about to be my sh******t, for real! “Who is THIS?!” I yelled as I cranked the volume to 10. When I was growing up, it was against my family’s religion to dance and listen to secular music (and yes, I’m serious). But for that 3 minutes and 30 seconds, you couldn’t tell me sh*t… I was gone!
So now, over a decade later… I’m all grown up, and miss britney is STILL a force in the music business. Does anyone realize how rare that is? To be consistently successful for 12 years! EVERY album goes platinum! That, my friends, is a miracle! And the fact that I’m even a part of this new project is also a miracle! My song, “Trouble For Me”, was the first song she recorded for this project… normally the first recordings get trashed as the project moves forward. People get tired of listening, it gets old… the beginning phase of most albums is usually just the breeding ground for the direction of the project. But our little baby… “the little song that could”… stood the test of time and I’m so proud of her! =)
We’re track Number 9 on the album… the song is called “Trouble For Me,” it was co-written with one of my best friends and favorite writers, Livvi Franc – the producer is Fraser T. Smith.
Fun Fact: We wrote this entire song on an acoustic guitar.
Another Fun Fact: The idea to record this song on Britney came from former-Jive (now-Warner) A&R Jeff Fenster (it was originally written for Livvi’s project)
The song is a little outside the box so it takes some getting used to… but the more you listen, the more you’ll love it. I promise! =)

And before I sign off, I would just like to address one thing! The media is talking trash about how Britney didn’t write any of the songs on her album… HELLO! Wake up everybody! NONE OF THESE ARTISTS WRITE THEIR OWN SONGS!!!!!! (there are a few exceptions… lady gaga, will.i.am/BEP, chris brown is starting to write a lot of his own stuff…ummmm… and now I’m running out of artists). Anyway… here’s my thing… and I feel VERY passionate about this issue. Britney could have come to me, like all these other A-list artists, and said…
“Hey, you wanna be on my album? I’m gonna need writing credit for that song AND part of your publishing even though I didn’t write anything! And then I’m gonna go on tour and gross $150 million in ticket sales and not give you any of that, even though I’m performing your song!”
I could rattle off a laundry list of artists who I’ve had that conversation with! And I’m on the other end like… “Oh okay… so you wanna rape me, but just with the tip?!” *Prince side eye* Britney’s one of the few artists I’ve worked with who didn’t try to take something that wasn’t hers. In my experience, from a business standpoint, her entire team is nothing less than a bonafide class act! If I ever have another song that she wants and another artist happens to want the same song… Britney will get it EVERYTIME! Why? Because she’s honest! And she treats her writers and producers with respect and dignity. An artist is nothing without a hit song… and a hit song is nothing without the right artist. It looks like the question I posed earlier just found its answer… maybe this is why 12 years later she’s STILL at the top!
“LEAVE BRITNEY ALOOOOOOOONE!” lmao!
