Doda/Jammu, April 06 (Scoop News) – – India, Centre for Environment Education Ahmadabad and Ministry of Environment and Forests , Govt. of India jointly with J&K State Education Department organized a District and Zonal level paryavaran mitra environment mela and teachers orientation workshop on environment education at town hall Doda today.
District Development Commissioner Doda Farooq Ahmed Khan was the chief guest on the occasion and Chief Education officer, Doda Y.R Thussu was the guest of honour besides ZEO’s, Principals , Headmasters and teachers of various schools were present .
While speaking on the occasion DDC Doda said that it is a matter of pride for the District that two students from Doda , Miss Ashwani and Miss Renu Bala (12th class of GHSS ( Girls ) Doda represented J&K state in the year 2011 at National level at Delhi during Environmental International Conference and stood third at all India level. DDC was very happy to know that Doda District id taking lead in conducting environmental education activities in schools with WWF –
He emphasized that the concept of environment conservation should be translated in our activities and actions through protecting and planting more and more trees. He asked the civil society of the District to plant trees so as to maintain the ecological balance of the region.
He also explained in detail the meaning of sustainable livelihood and dependence on natural resources and forests. He said that best efforts should be made to carry forward the programme and message of environment conservation and awareness among the people at village and panchayat level.

It was revealed that in Paryavaran Mitra Mela sixty students from 29 schools participated in Model Making, Poster Writing, Poster Making and Symposium on the Theme “Forests for sustainable Livelihood”. Students and Schools who stood first, second and third were awarded prizes for their performance. ZEO Bhagwah, Gundna and Doda were awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd for their performance in the implementation of National Green Corps, Eco-Club activities and paryavaran Mitra activities and National Environment Awareness campaign in schools.
Inaugural session was followed by technical session where teachers were made aware of teaching skills to combine academics with field knowledge and environment content in the books. Chief Education Officer Doda and ZEO Doda also spoke on the occasion.
