Ughampur (J&K), June 5 – While complimenting the probationary officers on completion of their training at at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur , the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said they should now discharge their duties with dedication and honesty. He said the officers would meet every challenge effectively in protecting the lives and property of the people and resolve to serve them with determination.
Cautioning the police officials, Mr. Abdullah said that they should not forget the honour of their uniform and remain firm while dealing with challenging situations. He also asked them to provide justice to the people without any fear or favour with due respect to human rights. He said the high standard of state police officials has made the force as one of the best in the country and a major partner in restoring peace and rebuilding confidence in J&K.
Earlier, Sixty-one Probationary Officers were administered oath after successful completion of their training at an Attestation-cum-Passing-Out Parade, held at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), here today. The officers include 31 Deputy Superintendents, one Inspector and 29 Sub-Inspectors.
Omar Abdullah was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The Chief Minister assured the police officials that the government will take due care of their genuine problems and demands.
Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda, who also spoke, said the Right to Information Act (RTI) is being implemented in letter and spirit and added it was the endeavour of J&K Police to be a people-friendly organization for which continued reforms are being undertaken. He said the department has submitted a proposal to the government for introducing commissionerate system in cities of Jammu and Srinagar.
In his welcome address, Director, SKPA, Navin Aggarwal, gave a detailed resume of activities of the Academy. He said during 2008-09, as many as 3,764 officials of J&K Police were imparted training at SKPA by organizing a number of courses including 13 new courses based on the specific skills required for police officials in the field. The Academy has also imparted training to officials of paramilitary Force, SSB and to Inspectors of Motor Vehicle Department besides a pre-disaster management course for home guards.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed trophies and certificates of appreciation among the Probationary Officers who were adjudged best in shooting, horse riding, indoor and outdoor activities and all-round best.
Later, the Chief Minister also laid foundation stone for the construction of 48 units of Upper Subordinate Quarters in the premises of SKPA. The Complex would be constructed by Police Construction Division at an estimated cost of Rs. 288 lakh.
MLA, Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IGP, Jammu,. K. Rajendra, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, Katra, Prof. N. K. Bansal, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Ajay Khajuria, senior officers of Army, Air Force, BSF, police and civil administration including parents were present on the occasion.
