It has been revealed that Luciano Pavarotti who died six months ago of pancreatic cancer had lyp-synched his performance at the opening ceremony of the Turin Winter Olympic Games in 2006.
The maestro who conducted the orchestra at the time and who worked with Pavarotti for years, recently published a book in which he said the tenor’s performance of "Nessum Dorma" ("Let No One Sleep") was prerecorded before the ceremony because his health would not permit him to sing live.
Already at that time Pavarotti was suffering from sharp pains. It was in the summer of 2006 that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He died a year later in September of 2007.
Luciano Pavarotti’s charimsatic personality and powerful voice had made him the most known tenor since Caruso. Aslo appearing in TV commercials he sang with pop stars around the globe successfully crossing over from opera to an internationally acclaimed singer and performer.
The world reknown tenor had already been caught lip-synching in 1992 and had suffered heavy critics at the same time. Somehow I doubt this will happen again.
While it seems some benefit from tarneshing the legacy one of the most reknown figures of the 20th century, I’m here wondering if it’s cool to ask for a refund of my 2006 Winter Olympic tickets…
