Join the 30th annual Nagar Kirtan, that is the Sikh Parade — all faiths welcome. According to the Yuba City Sikh Parade website, "The Management Committee of the Yuba City Sikh Temple Gurdwara is taking the Sikhism core value of Seva one step further this year."
In addition to preparing more than 250,000 free meals for all attendees this weekend, the Sikh Temple Gurdwara is partnering with local Sacramento Valley Food Banks in an effort to raise food for the less fortunate this holiday season. The demand has never been greater in these tough economic times." Also see the websites of Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, California Food Banks, and Food Pantry.
Bright blue bins for collecting canned food and non-perishable items are located in front of the Sikh Temple Gurdwara. Newspaper ads and city-wide banners are asking residents of Yuba City to join the Sikh community in this philanthropic effort.
The food drive will continue through the weekend. Everyone attending the Nagar Kirtan weekend and Sikh Parade is encouraged to clean their pantry and bring donated items.
