WOULD MODI ALLOW THE SONIA/UPA APPEASEMENT POLICY TO CONTINUE ALLOWING TN TAMILS AND INDIA TO WATCH ON HELPESSLY?
The words and actions of the remarkable Modi enthuses Tamils worldwide to await an early end to the Sonia-South Block’s appeasement of Sri Lanka (SL) policies and with it an end to the six decades long Eelam Tamils trauma. The Sonia/South Block appeasement of SL began as covert support to become entrenched basically for Sonia and the South Blockers to trade continued Indian support denying the Rajapakses any excuse (to implicate Sonia and the Delhi South Blockers in the SL crimes on Eelam Tamils) and also to opt out of SL’s commitments to Delhi. The Rajapakses were able to fiercely fight to frustrate the efforts of the international (UNHRC) community to hold the Rajapakses to account for their continuing genocide crimes though five years have elapsed since the end of the war in 2009. SL’s dramatic success in frustrating the efforts of the international community is wholly attributable to the support of Sonia and the South Blockers.
According to the BJP/NDA manifesto cultivating friendly relations with Modi’s neighbours is amongst its important objectives; but Modi’s ‘India first’ was paramount. For Sonia/South Block avenging for Rajiv’s killing was driven by ‘family first’ objective even at the expense of sacrificing the unity of India. Sonia supported the Rajapakses’ massive killings of TN Tamil’s kinsmen in Eelam, alienating TN Tamils and endangering the unity of India. TN CM Jayalalitha also an ‘India first’ leader like Modi had serious reservations about Modi’s invite to Rajapakse a deeply tainted leader on the UNHRC war crimes radar. TN along with the rest of India spearheaded the campaign to give Sonia/South Block a severe drubbing at the 2014 election. However though the numbers of mercenary pressure groups and scribes with affiliations to the South Block have diminished, still screams against Modi’s mission to change India’s foreign policy, modernize India, and rebuild its tattered reputation following from Sonia/UPA’s support for an immoral genocide of Eelam Tamils by SL.
The Rajapakses were euphoric when the add up of TN CM Jayalaitha’s Lok Sabha seats were not critical for Modi to be in power Rajapakse, was still desperate for Modi’s investiture invite to cultivate Modi’s friendship to continue the Sonia/UPA regime’s over appeasement of SL policies. To a leader of Modi’s caliber the oft repeated illogic of the Sonia/South/Blockers (respecting SL’s sovereignty, India’s geo-politics, and friendly neighbours) seemed unlikely to cut ice with a Modi when the Sonia tribe itself was totally banished by Indian voters from the Indian political landscape. Modi was not keen on the Rajapakse’s friendship when it had a huge baggage of misdemeanors including serious war crimes on the Tamils. Modi is no ordinary leader.
The Modi’s regime right from the beginning and specifically in the few minutes of the investiture meet had a taste of how reliable Rajapakse was as a dialogue partner. To a key Modi query on SL’s progress on reconciliation with the Tamils, Rajapakses’ reply in the presence of Modi’s MEA officials was a cavalier ‘the war was just over’ to which Modi’s quick re retort pointing out that the war was over 5 years ago. The details of these discussions when it entered the public domain Modi woke up to the lies that Rajapakse on his return to Colombo especially crucial parts of Modi’s observation were omitted. Modi had a first taste of how the Rajapakses brazenly lie reveals Rajapakses’s reliability as Modi’s dialogue partner. A few days elapsed for Colombo’s version of the discussion to appear under the title ‘provincial council is to not possible; Sri Lanka to India’ 5 June 2014.
The message coming out of the brief first Modi-Rajapakse meet was that the stage for over appeasing SL has to end and that Modi had no diplomatic compusions that would require him to continue to appease Rajapakse. UNHRC actions against the Rajspakses were gaining momentum when domestic/TN pressure forced Delhi in the UNHRC to vote with the US. The virulence of pieces of Rajapkses’ political lobbyists and scribes now surpasses those of B Raman (relying on his Tom, Tom news sources), Shiv shankar Menon, (NSA) Narayanan and IPKF Hariharan all to belittle the horror of Mullivaykkal massacres. Strangely these scribes blamed the Western sourced report on Mullivaykkel as the West’s conspiracy to destabilse the emerging super powers, SL and India. South Block lobbyists are quieter today that Rajapakses decided in view of the growing strength of the UNHRC’s war crimes initiatives on SL to unleash the cruder homegrown scribe Shenali Waduge.
Sonia’ craving to avenge for Rajiv’s killing turned to the South Block. That led to the ‘in the loop’ involvement of SL in ‘battle field decisions, and the frequent exchange of visits by top level figures from Delhi, (Pranab Mukerjee, NSA Narayanan, Shiv Sankar Menon and other South Blockers) triggered a debate on the level of the South Block’s involvement in SL’s war crimes. There was also the involvement of Ban and other UN officials (Nambiar in particular) described as the UN arm of the South Block causing massive loss of lives and massive displacement of Eelam Tamils from their homes and their homelands. Whilst all these are in the public domain Waduge in typical Sinhala style of lying attempts to divert attention to irrelevancies and not the evidence that support the cause of the victims of SL’s state terrorism. Now the incriminating war crimes evidence available in the public domain no longer requires… humanist to go soft on the brutal Rajapkses.
To the Eelam Tamils any debate prescribing the standard slogans (devolution, elections, development) become meaningless given the track record of SL’s deceits on the government’s killing and oppressive military occupation to cause the massive Tamils exodus to erase the Tamilian demographic character of the North. Dissatisfied with Subramania Swamy also going along with Modi on the 13 Amendment plus, the shallow Shenal Waduge indulged in ridiculing Modi; that after his triumphant victory Modi is caving in to pressure only by one (Jayalalitha) of India’s 31 CMs. ‘The Tamil Nadu tantrum has become a curse to India’s Central government .. interfering with India’s bilateral relationships with fellow sovereign nations….in contravention of India’s Constitution …aligns with external parties to create tensions between the two nations. More crude was Waduge questioning how could Jayalalitha include in party manifesto her pledge to create an Elam for Tamils in SL for Tamil who are not citizens of India.
This is specially so when the Sinhala government’s main pre-occupation was to change the demographics of the country in favour of the majority Sinhala people. The first act of Ceylon (SL) a year after independence was to disenfranchise about a million Indian Tamils living in the Up Country. Is it constitutional for one community to disenfranchise a minority and make them stateless? The sovereignty that was granted to Ceylon belonged to all communities at the time of independence. SL repatriated most of the disenfranchised to India, the remnants still live in SL in estates etching a near starvation living, in labour lines, with no schools or medical facilities.
Of those repatriated those unable to survive crossed back across the Palk Straights as refugees. SL brought in the armed forced to check the influx of these Tamils, arrested, chained and harshly detained them in open camps as the TN Tamil fishermen are subjected to today. These were made refugees detained in open camps in the North and harshly called ‘kallathonies’. Tamils in the South and even Tamils visiting SL are also called Kallathonys by the likes of Waduges and not cared for by the South Blockers in Delhi.
Waduge also states that the provision councils system is a legacy of the British. Does this justify the deprivation of their livelihood, and prepare all Tamils to sub standards living conditions once SL refuses land powers originally provided in the 13 Amendment.
To assess the extent to which Waduge belongs to the rabid anti-Indian and anti-Tamil tribe readers are requested to also read Waduge’s ‘How India created Bangladesh and lesson for Sri Lanka’ in parisvisionnews@yahoo.com of 29 March 2012. . According to Waduge only a few lakhs live in the North…the majority amongst the Sinhalese’ is to deliberately mislead the debate on devolution. Waduge’s ostrich view omits any mention about the traditional areas of habitation of Tamils conveniently burying the numerous pogroms unleashed by communal leaders using mobs (was Waduge sighted amongst the mob) to drive Tamils in the South out in government cargo ships regularly, fleeing the South by land was hazardous. The Sinhala areas in the South and Tamil areas in the North existed as separated areas of habitation prior to the 1940s except for some Tamils politicians and traders. Waduge’s stating ‘the Provincial Council system’ was set up by the British… (a novel history) and a good part of items of 13a have already been implemented.
According to Waduge’ India must understand that with TNA, the LTTE linked political party’s behavior, no sane Government would even consider giving police and land power to that province.’ With TN’s separatist history would India ever consider allowing…someone in Modi’s government without legacy of the past to brief Mr Narendra Modi of these realities? Police powers according to Waduge are a‘….. national security risk for both India and SL…Modi’s mantra for development has no time to entertain theatrics of TN politicians …it is good for Modi himself to realize that SL is a sovereign nation and he should not repeat the same mistake of interfering in its internal affairs ‘ or else Modi!. Just powerful words of wisdom Solomon!
TN as a state needs to take care of its Indian citizens in TN….SL’s Constitution makes it clear that all citizens have to be treated equally and any external party must realize that they are morally wrong to seek privileges for only one ethnic group above all others…while the world concentrates only on the last phase of the conflict. More than Waduge and Rajapakses there are Indian apologists aplenty who push Waduge’s line harder irrespective of how the world views the Rajapakses, the Waduges and the Tamil trauma.
