Do you feel that you get easily distracted when you are writing? Here you will find some tips to avoid it.
1- Write by hand
If you write by hand you will not have to worry about the distractions that you can have with a computer.
2- Use an application that does not allow to connect to the Internet
We are all susceptible to the distractions brought about by the Internet. That is why, if you cannot set aside your computer to write, use tools that were created for that purpose.
3- Turn off your cell-phone
Nowadays, cell-phones are small computers we need to be attached to all the time. However, writing is an activity that requires concentration and loneliness. Do yourself a favor and turn your cell off when you are going to write.
4- Choose a writing place
Sometimes, getting away from the household chores can be the best way to make progress with your writing. Look for a place that inspires you and where you feel comfortable, and get to writing. You will feel like you have to go out to work.
5- Prepare your body and your mind
Take a shower, have something enjoyable to eat, meditate, go for a run. These activities help clear your mind so that when you start writing you will have the whole energy needed to do it.
6- Get ready first
If you need to make constant interruptions to get your working tools or some food to eat, your writing time will not pay. Make sure you have all you need before sitting down.
7- Write every morning
If the first thing you do in the day is write, you will find that other tasks, such as doing the dishes or hanging the clothes, will not take up your writing time. Organize a timetable and respect the time you devote to writing.
8- Leave unfinished metaphors
One of the tips I have heard, but never used myself, is to leave an unfinished metaphor at the end of your writing session. This will allow you to start easily on the next day, as you will need to get immersed in the work right away.
9- Listen to some music
Music is a good ally when you need to concentrate. Choose the right one for your session.
10- Do not compare yourself to others
Just don’t. It is useless to waste your time by wanting to be someone else. Focus on your work and what it means to you.
