112 th Annual Flower show began at Ooty

With the onset of summer, the Queen of Hills, Ooty is busy and brimming with confidence.

112 th annual flower show at the Ooty botanical garden was inaugurated on Saturday that attracted about 80,000 visitors  from various parts of the country. The two-day flower show was inaugurated by Minister for Khadi and village Industries Mr.Ramachandran in the presence of Agriculture Production Commissioner and secretary for Agriculture Surjit K.Chowdry and the District Collector Anand Rao V.Patil.

A separate register has been maintained for foreigners and those from Germany, France and UK who have come all the way to the Queen of Hills to witness the flower show. The tourists inflow this year has been overwhelming and something around 1.25 people are expected on Sunday.

The novelties this year are giant floral arch and 300 types of flower arrangements that will that will steal the show. The missile arrangement formed with carnation and roses and the flower fountain are the special attractions.

The variety of flowers that form the special attraction in the flower show are Roses, gerbera, acitic liiliatia, limonium, galdayn, besides the  7,000 potted plants, including  Petumia, phlox, Pansy, African Marigold, Inca Marigold, French Marigold, Balsam,Agiratum and Renunculus etc

While ‘Ikebana’ flower arrangements were done by professionals from Bangalore and tropica and temperate vegetables were also exhibited by the growers.
