A seaside Massachusetts town is reeling from a secret pact that has left 17 girls pregnant. Usually about 4 girls each year become pregnant at Gloucester High School. This year 17 girls are pregnant, one by a 24-year-old homeless man. Apparently all the girls agreed in secret to get pregnant.
The school’s superintendent says the pregnant girls generally "lack self-esteem" and have little love in their lives. The principal first noticed something was amiss when the girls repeatedly visited the school’s clinic for pregnancy tests, and were more upset at not being pregnant.
Recent Hollywood movies have glamorized and romanticized teenage and unplanned pregnancy, such as Knocked Up and Juno. No word yet on whether these films contributed to the pact that left 17 girls pregnant.
