Peshawar: Several Frontier Constabulary men reportedly have been killed and wounded in a bomb blast near Mingora bazaar Thursday.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion damaged the FC truck and killed and wounded several persons.
It is currently unclear how many persons have been killed and if all the casualties were FC men. Officials in Peshawar have confirmed killing of six soldiers but a local police officer has told BBC Urdu on the condition of anonymity that 18 soldiers were killed and 15 other wounded in this powerful explosion.
But a Pakistani News channel Geo has reported of killing 30 people qouting its sources.
Sources said that the explosion occurred in an explosive laden truck that caught fire after the blast. The blast damaged at least 15 to 20 shops and vehicles, reported the channel.
The eyewitnesses have said that there was an exchange between the militants and security men was also occurred after the blast.
Mingora is a stronghold of the militants who are under the control of Maulana Fazlullah, an extremist cleric who have just declared jihad against the Pakistani government one day ago.
At least 2500 military and paramilitary troops were deployed yesterday at the area supposedly for an operation against the militants.
