Srinagar, June 3 (Scoop News)-In a joint rescue operation launched by Air Force, Divisional Administration Kashmir, Police, Fire Service, Army and local civilians, five children were rescued from Kausar Nag.
The children had gone for trekking 26 kms south of Aharbal falls when a portion of the glacier that they were standing on cracked and fell into the freezing waters of the lake and drifted into the middle alongwith four children, while one managed tospill out safely. Sensing trouble the boy ran to get help and somehow managed to contact DC Kulgam,Jehangir Mir on telephone through a local Bakarwal family.
The DC immediately launched a joint rescue operation with the help of SP Kulgam Mohammed Shafi and deputed joint teams of Army, Police, Fire Services and locals on foot. In the meantime, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Shailendra Kumar requisitioned chopper of air force for immediate rescue.
On a very short notice, a cheetah helicopter of Air force under the command of Wing Commander Saxena and Flight Lt. Raja flew to the location and with the help of ropes rescued all the four children. The rescued children were later brought to Kulgam hospital by the joint rescue party that travelled 26 kms on foot. DC and SP Kulgam are personally monitoring the medical treatment of the children who have been identified as Adil S/o Mushtaq Ahmed, Salman Riaz S/o Riaz Ahmed R/o Barbarshah, Fahad Hafiz S/o Abdul Rashid, Munib S/o Vikar Ahmed Khan and Amir S/o SarfarazHussain.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir appreciated Airforce, Army, Police, District Administration Kulgam and the locals who made efforts jointly in saving the precious lives. He conveyed his appreciation to AOC J&K AVM Walia, Air Wing Commander Yadav and CO Srinagar Group Captain JS Mann for help in taking air rescue immediate.
Meanwhile N. N. Vohra, Governor, has conveyed high appreciation of the prompt action taken by the Civil Administration, Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Air Force, Army and the local people which resulted in saving the precious lives of several youth from drowning in Kaunsar Nag in Kulgam district today.
In a message, the Governor has complimented Shailendra Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, for immediately mobilizing Air Force support to have an IAF Helicopter to rescue the youth. He has also complimented Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, the Police, Army, Air Force and all those who helped in saving these precious lives.
