50 Killed in parachinar due to Sectarian clashes in Kurram Agency
PARACHINAR: As well as some 50 people were killed and several injured in renewed sectarian clashes between two rival groups overnight in Kurram Agency, officials said this scribe. There are Shia community in majority while Sunny community in minority. Sectarianism crises raises every year in Kurrum Ageny of North West frontier province. The Kurrum agency is a Federal Administrative Tribal Area working under governor NWFP.
Heavy fighting broke out at several places in the Parachinar of Kurrum Agency late Friday and Saturday and continued throughout the night. Eyewitnesses disclosed. As a result some 50 people were killed after indiscriminate firing between two rival groups. The local administration has feared more deaths while confirming about 53 deaths during the clashes. Both the groups used heavy weapons during the clashes, it said. The curfew remained in Parachinar so far while ceasefire is being observed in the areas including Sadar Batchkhel, Rahimzai and Kharmiski.
Last week, rival Shia and Sunni groups fought fierce gun battles which left around 112 people dead, forcing the government to deploy troops to restore order. The sectarian bloodshed adds to concerns facing President Pervez Musharraf, who is already facing a bloody militant revolt in northern Swat valley and frequent suicide attacks in the rest of the country. It is note able to mention here that sectarian clashes took lives of some 600 people in 1996 similarly some 150 were killed in 1998 and 50 in 2001. after that every year dozens of people are killing from both sects
