Kabul: Afghan officials said on Wednesday they have killed 7 suspected Taliban and detained 8 including an area commander in two separate operations. In another incident, unknown men killed 2 men and wounded 10 after they opened fire on them and fled.
‘We launched an operation in the Zheri district last night which is still going on and killed at least 7 insurgents in Hawz-e-Madad area’ announced Syed Agha Saqib, Police Chief of southern Kandahar province, in a news conference.
He further said that Afghan security forces detained a local Taliban commander called Loyee Lala (Big Brother) in the same district who was responsible in terrorist activities.
In eastern province Ghazni, the province’s Police Chief General Alishah Ahmadzai said that an operation was conducted against the Taliban insurgents Wednesday morning in the Andar district by NATO and Afghan forces.
‘The forces detained seven insurgents with weapons and ammunition’ he confirmed.
Elsewhere in the central Wardag province, militants opened fire on men praying in a mosque and fled. The officials have confirmed that two men were killed and 10 others wounded in the firing. A search operation was launched against the gun men, said officials.
There are also unconfirmed reports that five insurgents have been killed in an explosion while planting mines in Barmal district of Paktika province near Pakistani border.
