The railroad tracks led out of town…
a desire to stay is strong
a heart hurts inside with raw emotions.
I loved him a lot
knew he loved me too
never begged me to stay.
Never asked my hand in marriage…
what was I to do?
A job offer I couldn’t refuse
jobs scarce in hometown
promises for a future.
A goodbye kiss…
sparks the core of my soul
various talks of a nuptial and children
no mention of an engagement ring
what was I left to believe
a girlfriend without a promise?
I stepped up on the train
“still” aspired for a response
a promise of a marriage, kids
time raced, years erased
swallowed all of the aspirations
a love left hanging in misconceptions.
