The ANZA Research Institute at the Concord Hospital in Sydeny would shorly be commencing a trial of a two monthly contraceptive injection which if successful may give men the control over their fertility while at the same time retaining their secual drive.
The injection aims at shutting down the male reprodcuvie function in the same manner a female contraceptive pill does. While, it has the effect of shutting down the sperm, the sexual drive is retained by tricking the brain into thinking that it has already produced the sperm.
According to the lead researcher, Rob Mihachelan, the treatment keeps the testosterone at normal levels, but, fools the brain into not producing the harmones required for initiating sperm production. There would not be any change in the sexual drive also as the level of testosterone in the blood remains the same.
