A miracle of 21st century Italian neorealism. I can’t improve on the ND/NF writer:
Looking for her lost dog, a middle-aged circus worker, Patti (Patrizia Gerardi), instead finds an abandoned two-year old child in a playground. In this engaging unsentimental tale of human decency and solidarity, the little orphan finds home and family with circus folks in a trailer park on the outskirts of Rome. As they search for the mother, Patti and her friends and neighbors slowly but surely fall in love with the kid.
From the film website:
La Pivellina is a film about a cosmos of outcasts in present-day Italy: a moving tale of courage and discrimination, of loss and togetherness, a look behind the corrugated-iron fence of a gated community.
Each of the performances is a revelation, not the least 2-year-old Asia Crippa (Asia). Rarely have I wanted to share a film so much with people I love. Hard to believe that it doesn’t (yet?) have US distribution.
