what gives you a sense of accomplishment… rather, what were supposed to be accomplishments…
when i was really small, being able to walk by myself
a few months later, passing toilet training
when i was in kindergarten, being able to recite the alphabets and reciting the nursery rhymes were supposed to give me a sense of accomplishment
when i was in primary school, being able to write words and make small sentences
when i was in middle school, being able to learn about the nature, animals, Indian independence and simple math stuff…
when i was in high school, being able to be one up over my peers; being the first to get a girlfriend, being the first to learn to ride a bike; being able to get into the school sports teams and so on
when i was in senior school, being able to handle more than 1 girlfriend at a time, being able to stay out a little bit longer in the night without my folks getting wild at me
when i reached college, it was being able to pass every semester without having any ‘backs’, being able to bunk classes and still have enough attendance to write the exam, getting through practicals without actually studying for it by befriending the ‘lab-ass’
when i was in the final years of college, getting a job through ‘campus recruitment’
finishing college without any ‘blemish’ and with a job in hand was considered a major accomplishment…
in my first job training, being able to clear the examinations after training without being thrown out
in my first job into production, being able to please your managers, whatever it takes to do that
and a few days later, being able to please your manager as well as finish your work for the day early enough and have time for some chilling out in the evening…
having said all this, i still am not satisfied… most of the above listed things, were accomplishments only because the rest of the world thinks these are the ‘mandatory’ accomplishments a person needs to have… most of these things revolve around one single achievement… the one thing that is drummed into every person’s head from the time he’s young enough to understand it… ‘get good grades, get a good job, earn a good salary and have a good standing in the society’
so it all boils down to ‘good standing in the society’… so where does the individual stand??? his aspirations… his hopes… his desires, etc…
our entire life we’re bogged down by parents, family, society, job security etc…
i really dunno what my desire or aspiration is… but the ‘accomplishments’ so far are not what i really count as those that give me a sense of accomplishment
