15 May,2012 (USA- California): The European government has recently carried out an awareness program regarding the proper use of antibiotic medications. The campaign was conceded with the goal of making people conscious about the significance of antibiotic medication, its usage in right aspect and shed light on its precautions as well as side effects.
Many people take the aid of antibiotics for every small health complication without consulting their health care professionals. The constant use of these medications such as Ampicillin has led to an increase in the bacterial resistance with regard to this drug, thereby making a wide range of antibiotics inefficient to carry out their function. Also, the continuous consumption of these drugs also leads to a negative effect on the beneficial microbial organisms present in the intestine.
Hence, on the yearly European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD), the European government has decided to alert citizens about the pros and cons of unnecessary antibiotic usage. Hence, the primary objective of this campaign was to create awareness about the risk associated with unwanted use of these medications thereby perpetuating these medications safe and effective as future treatment options.
Professor Dame Sally Davies claimed that many people use antibiotics for dealing with cold or flu symptoms, which is not the right treatment plan; as antibiotics are unable to cure these clinical conditions. Philip Howard, the consultant of antimicrobial pharmacist said that patients and doctors should work in conjugation to bring the right foot forward against antibiotic usage and this will prove to be a beneficial effect.
While, Professor Steve Field put forth his views in this regard and said that consuming loads of fluids and taking ample of rest is the best way to get rid of common cold symptoms than taking the aid of antibiotics. Leaflets, posters and information pads were also distributed to people, stating the right measure of using antibiotic medication and directing them to stay away from being falling prey to serious health conditions.
