There Are 8 Endocrine Glands, All Of Which Can Be Enhanced With Acupressure.
The endocrine glands are the pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, thymus, pineal, parathyroid, pancreas and gonads. The endocrine glands differ from the body’s other glands and discharge their hormones directly into the bloodstream. They have no ducts from which to secrete their hormones and are sometimes referred to as the ductless glands.
The phrase “Mother-Daughter Law” is used in Chinese medicine to explain how various parts of the body work in conjunction with other parts. In that philosophy if one part is either over or under energized, another part attempts to make up the difference. It’s not possible to say that one is more important than another, because if one is affected by some disturbance, all are effected. An imbalance in the thyroid will affect the efficiency of the pancreas and so on. In acupuncture and acupressure there are meridians that have the acupoints along their length. If there’s a deficiency in a gland or organ, it’s possible to increase the energy by doing a meridian massage in the normal direction. If there’s an over energy, you can lower the energy by doing the meridian massage in reverse.
Magnesium is highly beneficial to, and necessary for, health of the pituitary. Magnesium is also necessary for calcium assimilation by the receptor sites at the cellular level. Magnesium is the “door opener” for calcium at the cellular level and is required for healthy cardiac function. Magnesium deficiencies can also be connected with asthma, body odor, diabetes, muscle and leg cramps, migraine headaches, PMS and stress. Wheat germ, leafy green vegetables, soy flour, honey, endive, kohlrabi, cashew nuts, almonds, Brazil nuts and dried lima beans are natural whole food sources that are high in magnesium.
Taoism states that the pituitary gland directs the intelligence, governs the memory, controls wisdom and the ability to think clearly. This coincides with the acupressure point at the base of the skull and the various parts it stimulates.
Because of the location of the pituitary there is no direct way to massage it. Acupressure and any exercise that stimulates, soothes or heals the other endocrine glands should be beneficial to the pituitary. Acupressure points for the pituitary include the following.
There’s an acupressure point for the pituitary gland located on the inner part of the lower leg approximately one third of the way down from the knee to the ankle and half way down the calf muscle. Treat by sliding the thumb of the hand corresponding to the leg you’re treating along the edge of the calf muscle and the edge of the bone. Most people on drugs, prescription and recreational, will find the area painful. Apply pressure and massage the length of the tender area until the tenderness subsides. This point is helpful for treating confused thinking.
On the bottom sides and in the center of the great, or big, toe is a specific contact point for the pituitary and also many lung problems. Press in and then toward the heel to remove all slack from the skin. Hold firmly and steadily until tenderness subsides.
Between the end of the base of the nose and the upper lip, directly in the center, is an acupoint for the anterior (fore part) of the pituitary. This is an important point for males during the adolescent period. The point can be used to stop a sneeze and for certain types of paralysis. It’s also a contact for reducing facial wrinkles.
The seventh cervical vertebrae is a direct contact for the pituitary, a point that can relieve pain when a bone is broken anywhere in the body and for the thyroid, heart, spinal cord and spinal nerves.
There are two acupoints on the top of the head for the pituitary. One is at the center, top of the crown, approximately one inch in front of the posterior fontanelle (soft spot). This point affects the pituitary, central nerve plexus of the heart, pyloric valve (bottom valve) of the stomach and can be used for abdominal cramps, indigestion and gas. The other point on the top of the head is approximately one inch behind the posterior fontanelle and on the centerline. This point is very important for the energy in the spinal cord, brain, colon, water retention in the legs, bloat and it balances the energies between the pineal and pituitary glands. Proper diet is especially essential for a proper pituitary function and during all stages of life. No one performs well if his or her pituitary energy is low.
Rubbing the hands together to create heat and energy then placing the cupped hands over the eyes can create healing energy for the pituitary and pineal glands.
There isn’t a lot of herbal information that pertains to the pituitary gland. But because the pituitary controls the other endocrine glands, it seems logical that if those glands are affected by herbals for certain maladies, the pituitary would be too.
