Use of energy in buildings is determination basically by the climatic condition of the area where building is located. Efficiency of energy is determined by:-
a) energized system required for the heating , cooling, lighting and ventilation
b) Non-energized systems like floors, ceilings, walls, roofs, windows etc.
c) Human systems including maintenance, operating and management personnel
By modifying i.e., changing the above systems we can save a lot of energy. The following heat gain heat loss:-
A) Outside air enters the builds through cracks, doors left open etc. during the heating seasons cold air which enters the buildings results in loss of heat because it must be heated to maintain the heat.
During cooling seasons, hot air comes from outside, which must be cooled to maintain the desired comfort condition.
B) Exterior walls, windows and doors, roofs, floors etc. of a building transmit heat.
Ventilation provides the building with fresh air by exchanging inside air the outside one. During the heating season, cold air is brought in and equivalent volume of warm air is exhausted. During cooling season, cooled air is exhausted and warm one is brought in.
