Director General of the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Dora Akunyili, has called upon Pakistani pharmaceutical companies to invest in Nigeria.
She said this when the Pakistani High Commissioner, Khalid Durrani, paid her a courtesy call at the NAFDAC head office on Thursday in Abuja .
"We will appreciate it if Pakistani pharmaceutical companies can establish manufacturing plants in Nigeria.
"We don’t have a single Pakistani company manufacturing in the country", she said.
The Director General urged the High Commissioner to inform his country’s pharmaceutical companies of the conducive atmosphere in which drug manufacturers operate in Nigeria.
"If you go home to tell drug manufacturers that the regulatory condition in Nigeria is excellent and that business is booming, by saying this they will be encouraged to come over."We are already doing business with Pakistani pharmaceutical companies, so far we have registered 81 drugs, one food product, and five medical devices brought into the country."
The Pakistani High Commissioner disclosed that the Pakistani government has donated N500,000 worth of drugs to Nigeria. He pledged continued co-operation between Pakistani and Nigeria. .
He said: "we are here to know how things are done and explore ways of co-operation between two counties"
