Srinagar June, 15 (Scoop News) – The Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the New India Assurance Company, Mumbai, M. Ramadoss, called on the Governor, N. N. Vohra, at the Raj Bhavan here today, and presented to him the Insurance Policy which extends the insurance cover of Rs. one lakh to all the registered Yatris, labourers and pony owners during the period of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2010. This is among the several new initiatives for ensuring progressive improvement in the Yatra management.
The Insurance Policy has the provision of free of charge Accident Insurance Cover of Rs. one lakh for every Yatri who possesses a Yatra Permit. The entire expenditure for drawing this insurance cover is being borne by the Board. In Yatra 2009, a Yatri seeking an accident insurance cover was required to pay Rs. 24 at the time of registration for the Yatra.
Accidental Insurance Cover has also been provided, with the support from the State Government, to all the registered labourers deployed during the Yatra, as well as for the pony owners, in case their horse/pony is involved in an accidental death. This scheme is aimed to benefit about 20,000 labourers and 7,000 pony owners, belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society.
The Principal Secretary to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the SASB, Raj Kumar Goyal, Additional Chief Executive Officer, Saugat Biswas, Director and General Manager, New India Assurance Company, Mumbai, A. R. Sekar, General Manager, HO, I. S. Phukela, Regional Manager, Chandigarh Region, Dr. R. K. Attri, Jammu Branch Head of the Company, Dr. Daleep Pandita and Deputy Labour Commissioner, J&K Government, Mohammad Ali Khan, were present on the occasion.
