At Google’s annual developers conference held in the last week of June, the tech giant disclosed the latest version of its Android operating system, which is supposedly referred as Android L.
According to various reports, Android Codename “L” will be released out for use shortly this year. Just in case if you are wondering what L stands for, it could be an abbreviation for either Android Liqquorice or Android Lollipop. All the new Android devices are said to be packed with Android L. For the rest of the older Android devices, it depends on the manufacturers’ wish to decide when they wish to unleash the new update.
According to Google’s Android and Chrome head, Sundar Pichai, the latest version of Android is by far their biggest step forward. Reaching out to such huge audience, which has grown considerably in the last few years, releasing Android L is a big task, and its success will be a big achievement for Google.
Further, Android faces huge competition from its rival, Apple’s iOS, which unleashed a new update of its own in the beginning of June at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2014. Having said that, it is obvious that with such intense competition, Android is expected to deliver, superiority in almost every aspect. Our expectations have naturally increased as we talk of Android L.
Material Design
As suggested by Mr. Pichai, Android’s latest update will definitely be a game changer. Android fans across the globe believe that the launch of this update will undoubtedly result a massive step towards change and development. As per the reports, Google used Material Design, for the latest update, which allows the designers to add seams and shadows in order to present various visual effects. Something like a 3D effect, which gives the impression that your phone screen is floating in depth.
Basically, this design gives your phone a fine 3D appearance, and little elements like icons will dynamically expand or shrink, in an animated way. Cute and fun but simple and elegant, Google has certainly taken effort in delivering something different this time.
Better Battery and Pocessor Performance
With new devices hitting the shelf of tech world each day, it is important that the operating system they run on will provide them with superior processor. Google understands the situation and has reportedly promised improved and unmatched processor performance with the launch of its latest Android L.
Apps, which have been programmed using Java can now run on Android based smartphones seamlessly as Google supports a 64 bit architecture for its smartphones. The company also promises unmatched battery performance. With Google’s Project Volta taking shape, we presume Android L will enable users to run apps and work efficiently with reduced battery usage and when the device is idle the battery will not be wasted.
Notification
As far as the Notification department of Android L is concerned, Google claims that the process will change drastically, as the users will now have access to the notification contents without the need to unlock their screen.
A tiny floating window at the top of the screen will notify you with what’s new, even when you are working on another app, to avoid causing inconvenience.
Welcoming The Lollipop
So many changes in such little time. Although the changes mentioned above are only a few, we have many more to see when the update is released. Android is surely taking a huge step with its new update, but only time will tell if it was the right step or just another update.
