“Shingetsutan Tsukihime” aka “Tsukihime: Lunar Legend” is an anime series that lasts up to twelve episodes. It’s very much toned down from its visual novel counterpart in terms of viewing. The visual novel itself is highly erotic with a lot of graphic sexual intercourse. But, it isn’t present within the anime series as it looks to be PG friendly in most cases asides from the blood and violence present. The series itself is connected to another twelve episode anime series called “Fate/Stay Night.”
Tsukihime: Lunar Legend revolves around vampirism, alchemy, and sorcery. There are a string of murders taking place throughout the sitting where Tsukihime: Lunar Legend takes place. The main protagonist is a boy named Shiki Tohno who is cursed with this ability to see all sorts of black lines. He’s scared of these black lines and wears a special set of glasses as a result. Shiki is sent to live with his family once again with his sister Akiha being the head of the family. He’s placed under a curfew every night. But it doesn’t stop him at all as he sneaks off every night.
Things turn out normal for Shiki until he is attacked by a girl named Ciel who happens to be a classmate of him. Then he is rescued by a woman named Arcrueid Brunestud who is a vampire. It’s revealed that Ciel is an agent for this group called the Burial Agency which is a special squad for the Vatican that deals in assassinations. This is one of the many vampire-themed anime titles that portray the Vatican that have a group that secretly operates in special operations. “Trinity Blood” and “Hellsing” are two popular titles that portray the Vatican as a major player with its own special group.
Tsukihime does have an interesting cast of characters such as Kohaku and Hisui whom work at the household. The two of them are revealed to have special abilities later in the series.
There is an interesting antagonist in Nrvnqsr “Nero” Chaos who’s a vampire that can summon up to 666 different beasts. Asides from Nero Chaos, Tsukihime has all sorts of antagonists out to get both Shiki and Arcrueid. It looks to be a very good anime series to watch. There is a 2D fighting game for the PC adapted from Tsukihime called “Melty Blood.”
This is one of the few vampire themed anime series revolving about vampires whom are created by means outside of the typical vampire bites. Hellsing had vampire bites and the special freak chip. Trinity Blood had special nanomachine technology discovered on the planet Mars.
