In an awesome performance at the floodlit National Stadium in Karachi on Thursday, the 26th June, India mauled Pakistan by six wickets with plenty of overs to spare, in the run up for Asia Cup. It was a sweet revenge also for Indians, who were outclassed by Pakistan in Kitply tri-series in Dhaka just two weeks ago.
Batting first in a perfectly batting pitch, Pakistan pulled up a fighting total of 299, with Shoaib Malik scoring a ton before suffering cramps and retired. Yunis Khan also contributed a handsome 59.
India’s reply was simply murderous and made the Pakistani team look like a club team. After losing Goutam Gambhir cheaply to a spectacular one handed catch by Misbah-ul-Haq, the couplet of Sehwag and Suresh Raina started firing on all cylinders, scoring fours and sixes at ease, for a 198 run second wicket partnership in just 149 ball, which was incidentally the highest in Asia Cup.
Raina was first to go in the 28th over after hitting 84 which included 10 fours and 3 sixes in 69 balls. Sehwag followed next after scoring 119 with 12 fours and 5 sixes in 95 ball-innings.
It was a cake walk thereafter for Indians and with a contribution of 48 (47 balls) from Yuvraj and a 26 not out from Captain Dhoni, the match was mopped by Indians with just under 8 overs to spare.
