Peshawar: At least four persons including three police men have been killed and five more among whom are former MNA Pir Mohammad Khan injured in a suicide attack on federal minister and provincial leader of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Ameer Muqam’s home in Hayatabad, Peshawar Friday evening.
The minister, who was present in his house, has escaped the attack but his brother was among the injured, according to the sources.
Security forces in Peshawar said that the bomber was trying to enter the minister’s residence, when police attempted to stop him, he blew himself killing himself and the people near him.
It is learned that a meeting of PML (Q) leaders was in progress in the minister’s residence at the time of the suicide attack.
So far, none of the militant groups has claimed responsibility but local pro-Taliban and pro-Al-Qaeda militant groups have threatened many times they will target government figures.
Ameer Muqam belongs to Swat Valley where the Islamic militants have control on some areas and fighting against Pakistani military. They also had once threatened him.
In April, 29 people were killed in a suicide attack on another federal minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, who also had survived the attack. It is the second suicide attack in one year on two federal Pakistani ministers.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz condemned the attack and termed it a cowardly act of violence.
