His was love at first sight. But when it went unrequited, autorickshaw driver Murugan (28) tried something outrageous – he stopped the 20-year-old girl in the middle of the road near Madipakkam and kissed her under full public glare. But what followed was not so filmy.
People bashed up the nasty Romeo and handed him over to the police.
Police said Prema (name changed), a college student and a resident of Nanganallur, was riding her bike when Murugan brought his autorickshaw to a halt in front of her before grabbing her. The driver had fallen in love with her after Prema and her friends travelled in his vehicle.
On Sunday, Prema was on her bike, on her way to meet a friend in Keezhakatalai. Spotting her on the Medavakkam main road, Murugan followed her in his autorickshaw.
He chased her for several kilometres and finally blocked her path. Even as the girl stood shocked, he started kissing her. He just turned more rude as the girl tried to push him away, eyewitnesses said.
People, who came to her help, separated the girl from his clutches and bashed him up. However, he managed to run away, leaving his autorickhsaw behind. Prema was taken to a private hospital.
Based on her father’s complaint, Madipakkam police have booked him under the Section 354 (outraging the modesty of women) and Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prevention of Women Harassment Act.
