AWP North England region foundation meeting in Bradford UK

A well attended meeting of progressive activists of Pakistani origin in North England decided to form Awami Workers Party (Pakistan) in North England to fight religious extremism, equality, social justice, exploitation and world peace. The meeting was held in Bradford and was facilitated by South Asian Peoples Forum UK. Veteran socialist from Newcastle comrade Rasheed Ahmed Saraba chair the meeting and Councillor Ghazanfer Khaliq former Lord Mayor of Bradford Metropolitan Council was chief guest. Large number progressive activists from Newcastle, Leeds, Bradford, Bury, Manchester and Liverpool attended the meeting.
Brief discussion was carried on the socio-political and economic situation of Pakistan, terrorism and growing extremism, history of the left movement in South Asia and left unity in Pakistan particularly recent merger of three left party and formation of Awami Workers Party. People who participated in the discussion include Mohsin Zulfiqar, Pervez Fateh, Rasheed Saraba, Prof Nazir Tabassum, Khalid Saeed Qureshi, Ghazanfer Khaliq, Prof Tariq Ahmed, Ahmed Nizami, Sagheer Ahmed, Lala Mohammad Younas, Prof Fabbie Husein, Rasheed Khater, Zakir Hussain, Mukhtar Ahmed, Zafar Malik and Kamran Younis.
The meeting unanimously elected 12 members Executive Committee and office Barrier for North England region:
President: Rasheed Ahmed Saraba (Newcastle)
Voice President: Ahmed Nizami (Bury/ Manchester)
General Secretary: Mohsin Zulfiqar (Leeds)
Deputy Secretary: Lala Mohammad Younis (Bradford)

House also decided to keep mass fronts like SAPF on forefront and broader. It is also decided to maintain close ties with progressives in city councils and leadership of Labour Party Britain along with other left parties in the Britain. These comrades to be invited in the AWP meetings time to time.
Executive committee member Kamran Younas has given the responsibility to concentrate on social media and motivating youth towards AWP and SAPF.
A number of resolutions were passed, which will be released separately.
