Tonight my heart soared as it did four years ago when I first heard Barack Obama speak. That night, when he gave the keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention, what immediately sprang to mind was that he would make a wonderful President. This thought was sadly followed by the thought that I would never see it happen.
Well, tonight Barack Obama gave another speech. One in which the first African American made history by accepteing the nomination for president. The speech was moving and passionate and as good, if not better, than the one I heard four years ago. Once again, I am filled with hope and excitement that this intelligent, compassionate, empathetic person could become our next president. And this time I know that it is not only possible, but probable.
And the best part was that afterwards the ‘pundits’ had little to criticize about this dazzling speech. Barack Obama spoke from his heart; he spoke up for the unfortunate, the poor, the homeless and the hopeless with such passion and stridency that there was little to criticize. He spoke the truth about how our country has let down so many Americans. He spoke about how our country can do better.
What a wonderful night. There is finally a light at the end of the tunnel. Can we change the direction of our country? Yes we can!
