The Oyo State Social Welfare , Nigeria,has rescued 10 babies abandoned in the streets by some heartless mothers.
The abandoned babies were said to have been picked by some good Samaritans and handed over to the social welfare department.
It was gathered over 60 abandoned babies were picked from different locations in the state between January and November.
The Oyo State Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Kehinde Akinyemi, said that the babies were dumped in the bush, adding that they were discovered by some good Samaritans, who alerted him.
He said: "Some of these babies were dumped by some female adults and mothers who had unwanted pregnancies and were not ready to take care of the babies."
Akinyemi explained that one of them, a one-month-old baby girl, was dumped at Ojoo Restaurant in the Ojoo area while another one-month-old baby girl was abandoned at Isale General Hospital, Ogbomoso.
Another one was abandoned at Mokola roundabout, another at Apete garage, while another one, believed to be deformed, was abandoned at CAC premises at Agugu, Ibadan.
The welfare officer advised parents and guardians to always monitor their children and wards and to teach them morals to avoid unwanted pregnancies.
