Bribe-hungry cops were beaten up by truck drivers in retaliation for beating up one of their comrade, truck driver Satyendra Singh. The spot was near Bankura Town of West Bengal on the National Highway 60.

Satyendra said, “I requested them to let me go, but the policemen dragged me out, pushed me down on the road and started kicking me.” Hearing the cries of Satyendra, some 25 drivers sipping tea in a nearby ‘Dhaba’ came to his rescue and seeing the cops beating their comrade, the drivers started beating back the cops. Soon local residents joined the drivers in kicking and slapping the policemen and even the driver of the cop’s jeep was not spared.

As if this was not enough, the drivers blocked the National Highway 60 in protest against the harassment by highway petrols. A police team from Bankura police station somehow rescued the four policemen and opened the highway after a lathi charge.
The Bankura Additional SP Rabindranath Mukherjee said that a probe has ordered in the incident and as a punishment, the four policemen has been transferred to a camp in Jhilimili ( a Maoist-infested area).
