Bye Elections in Pakistan

On 26th of June 2008 polling for bye elections for 38 seats of National and provincial assemblies of Pakistan will be held, Election Commission of Pakistan has reversed its previous decision to delay bye elections for two months due to deteriorating law and order situation in NWFP province of Pakistan. Generally it is believed that election process reflect the will of the people, in countries like Nepal and Pakistan where armed Maoist guerillas and armed to teeth Taliban militants are present to influence the process and outcome of elections, true reflection of the will of the people becomes mission impossible, a friend of mine went to monitor the recent elections in Nepal and has assured me regarding outcome of elections as true reflection of the will of the people, where Maoist party came out victorious in result of fair and free polling conducted by government authorities in Nepal. In Pakistan too February 18th polling was resulted in true reflection of the will of the people of Pakistan, though election campaign was marred by suicide bomb attacks in which leader of Pakistan Peoples Party Muhtarima Benazir Bhutto Shaheed was also martyred by extremists in Liaqat Park Rawalpindi and voters due to suicide bomb attack on office of Pakistan Peoples Party candidate one day prior to polling day, in Parachinar capital of Kurram Agency voters were terrorized to the extent that very few people came out to poll their vote. Terrorized men and women sitting within polling stations to conduct polling were seen weeping and reciting verses of holy Quran on February 18th in Pakistan. Interestingly no suicide bomb attack was witnessed on polling day, Pakistan Army had sealed Pak- Afghan border on that very day so no suicide bomber was able to sneak into Pakistan on February 18th. Probably on 26th June 2008 on polling day for bye-elections the same border will be sealed again to avoid to suicide bomb attacks in Pakistan. Frequent elections will definitely help to improve the law and order situation and political leadership of Pakistan will be able to resolve issues of national and international importance skillfully and well in time.
